Celebration of womanhood🩸

Raja is an abbreviation used for Rajaswala (meaning a menstruating woman) and is celebrated across Odisha and Odias living outside for three days from 14 to 16 June every year - day one is pahili raja, day two raja sankranti and day three basi raja. Though the festival is celebrated for three days, the fourth day also has its significance. It is the day of the Basumati Snana in which the mother earth is given a ceremonial bath. The term Raja comes from the word Rajaswala which means menstruating women. It signifies the menstrual cycle of the earth According to popular belief, mother earth menstruates just like women do, and during this period the menstruation of mother earth is celebrated. Menstruation symbolises fertility and creativity. The traditional knowledge on agriculture supports the belief that during this period the earth is most fertile and it is the best time for the germination of seeds. So, Raja festival marks the onset of sowing season after a long dry spell.

The BJP’s Mohan Charan Majhi will be the next Chief Minister of Odisha, senior party leader and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced on Tuesday.

The 52-year-old leader, a four-time MLA, is a prominent tribal face in the coastal state. He will have two deputies-- Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Parida, Singh added in his announcement.

In a post on the microblogging site X, Rajnath Singh said, "Delighted to announce that Shri Mohan Charan Manjhi has been elected unanimously as the leader of Odisha BJP Legislature Party. He is a young and dynamic party karyakarta who will take the state forward on road to progress and prosperity as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. Many congratulations to him."
