The devastating floods have affected thousands of families across Odisha, leaving homes submerged, livelihoods destroyed, and communities struggling to access food, clean drinking water, medicines, and shelter.

Empowering Frontline Workers for Early Disability Identification!

On 29th July 2026, Aaina successfully conducted a Capacity Building Training for ASHAs and Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) under the CBID – Ananya Project, Ganjam. The programme brought together frontline workers and ICDS Supervisors from various Gram Panchayats to strengthen their knowledge on the early identification, referral, and inclusion of children with disabilities.

The training featured expert sessions on the 21 disabilities recognized under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act (RPwD Act), interactive group activities, and valuable discussions led by distinguished guests and resource persons.

By enhancing the capacities of frontline workers, Aaina continues its commitment to building inclusive communities where every child receives timely support and equal opportunities.

We celebrated International Day for Deafblindness (Helen Keller Day) 2026 at Budhapark with children with deafblindness, their parents, caregivers, and our dedicated staff.

It was a joyful day filled with interaction, nature-based learning, shared experiences, and community participation. Together, we celebrated inclusion, connection, and the unique strengths of every child.

🌸 Raja Celebration 2026: Celebrating Culture, Health, and Women's Dignity 🌸

Raja Festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Urbengi Village, Kankadahad Block, Dhenkanal District, and Routpada Village, Begunia Block, Khordha District.
The celebration blended Odisha’s rich cultural traditions with awareness on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM). Various competitions, traditional games, and cultural activities encouraged active participation from women, girls, and community members.
At Urbengi Village, a Health Camp and Sanitary Pad Distribution Programme were organized to promote menstrual health and hygiene. The event was graced by Shri Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan, Hon’ble MLA, who appreciated the initiative and encouraged community participation.
The Raja Queen and Raja Sathi 2026 and winners of different competitions were felicitated with prizes, making the celebration a joyful and empowering experience for all.

Raja Celebration 2026 with a Message of Menstrual Hygiene Management 🌸

Raja Festival was celebrated with great enthusiasm and joy across our project areas in Bhanjanagar, Godibari, and Bhubaneswar. The celebration not only showcased the rich cultural traditions of Odisha but also served as an important platform to raise awareness on Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM) among community members.

A variety of fun-filled and engaging activities were organized, including:
✨ Mehendi Competition
✨ Pan Preparation Competition
✨ Traditional Pitha Competition
✨ Mucia Chara (Traditional Games)
✨ Quiz Competition
✨ Ramp Show and Cultural Performances

Participants enthusiastically took part in the activities, demonstrating their talents, creativity, and confidence. Awareness sessions on menstrual health and hygiene were also conducted to encourage open discussions, break taboos, and promote healthy practices.

Winners of the various competitions were recognized and awarded prizes. The highlight of the celebration was the selection and felicitation of the Raja Queen 2026, adding excitement and joy to the event.

The celebration created a vibrant atmosphere of learning, participation, and empowerment, bringing communities together to celebrate Odisha’s cultural heritage while promoting the health, dignity, and well-being of girls and women.

Launching of Project Ball Marg – A Safe Path for the Children of Kandhamal

We are delighted to share the successful launching of project Ball Marg – A Safe Path for the Children of Kandhamal on 09 June 2026 at Baliguda, Kandhamal, Odisha.

This initiative is funded by the Dipartimento per le Politiche della Famiglia, led by CIAI ETS, and implemented by Aaina in collaboration with Gram Vikas and BSS.

The project aims to strengthen the protection and social inclusion of vulnerable children and children with disabilities in 26 villages of Kandhamal district. Through community-based interventions, capacity building, promotion of children's rights, family support, and improved access to education, health, and socio-economic services, the project seeks to create a safe, inclusive, and nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

The State Level National Education Policy (NEP) – Inclusive Education Status Sharing Workshop was successfully conducted today at Bhubaneswar.
The workshop witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 50 stakeholders, including BRTs, IEVs, teachers, parents, and Children with Special Needs (CwSN) representing different departments from three districts — Ganjam, Khordha, and Dhenkanal.
We were honoured by the presence of IED Coordinators, BRCCs, BRPs, CDPOs, Anganwadi Supervisors, teachers, parents, along with the Secretary and EC Members of Aaina and respective project leads.
The session focused on sharing key findings, discussing existing challenges, and strengthening collective efforts towards building accessible environments and ensuring inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all children.

A powerful and creative performance was presented by Adolescent Boys and Girls during the Global Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration, highlighting the importance of menstrual health awareness and breaking the silence around menstruation. Through drama, dialogue, the young performers beautifully reflected the challenges, stigma, discrimination, and restrictions faced by girls and women during menstruation in society.

The performance strongly conveyed the message that menstruation is natural and should never be treated with shame or silence. It encouraged open conversations, dignity, equality, and support for menstrual health rights. The youth artists passionately demonstrated how young people can become change-makers by challenging harmful taboos, spreading awareness, and creating a more inclusive and period-friendly society.

The performance received great appreciation from the audience for its impactful message and confident presentation by the young participants.

A meaningful panel discussion on “Menstrual Health as a Fundamental Right” . The discussion highlighted that menstrual health is closely linked with dignity, equality, education, and human rights. Speakers discussed challenges such as stigma, lack of awareness, limited access to safe menstrual products, and inadequate period-friendly infrastructure in schools, workplaces, and public spaces. The panel also emphasized the importance of inclusive menstrual health services for persons with disabilities and marginalized communities.

During the discussion, several important action points emerged, including the need to create comprehensive menstrual policies at state and workplace levels, introduce menstrual literacy programs in schools and colleges, and actively involve boys and men in menstrual health conversations. The speakers also stressed the importance of eliminating myths that associate menstruation with impurity, including menstrual hygiene products in disaster relief kits, encouraging women and girls to openly advocate for their rights, and building supportive, inclusive, and gender-sensitive institutions. The session concluded with a collective call to ensure safe, dignified, and inclusive menstrual health for all.

An engaging panel discussion on “Gen-Z and Menstrual Rights” was held as part of the Global Menstrual Hygiene Day observance. The discussion created a vibrant space for young voices to speak openly about menstruation, dignity, gender equality, access to safe sanitation, and breaking long-standing taboos.

Young participants shared their experiences, challenges, and aspirations for a more inclusive and period-friendly society where menstrual health is recognised as a basic right, not a stigma. The session highlighted the power of Gen Z in driving social change through awareness, advocacy, and collective action. Together, we move one step closer towards a future where every individual can manage menstruation with dignity, safety, and confidence. ✨🩸
