Three back to back GLIDE Workshops for AHEAD Initiatives, were conducted in Hingalganj (Sunderban, WB) and Kusumi & Simlipal (Mayurbhanj, Odisha) from 7 - 18 September 2024. The workshops brought in 138 participants, comprising tribal farmers, fishermen, cattle rearers, SHG members, Panchayat members, CSO Partner staff, and AHEAD Monitoring staff.
Located in the picturesque mountains, on river banks, and dense forests, these villages are nature's treasures. But the abundance gets overshadowed by poverty mindsets, that fail to appreciate the existing wealth.
I was told that the participants have never stayed for any training or workshop for more than 2 hours. But the GLIDE Workshop kept them glued, and brought them on their own, all three days. With not a single dropout, the enthusiasm ran high, and some livelihoods got instantly started.
But what touched me and Shibani the most, was the presence of two tribal women, who inspite of giving birth through caesarean a week back, sat on the floor, completed all the exercises, and took advantage of the tea and lunch breaks, to feed their one week old babies at home. We got to know this only when they took an early excuse the last day, to visit the local health centre to get their stitches cut. They did not inform the organisers about their condition, lest they do not get to attend the workshop. A big Salute to such Mothers, who want to achieve something in life.
Take a look at the Pictures in the following Albums, to see what emerged from the three GLIDE workshops.
