A Dream Deferred, Not Denied
It feels deeply disappointing that the long-awaited vision of 33% reservation for women in Parliament, under the leadership of Narendra Modi, has not moved forward as hoped.
For many women across India, this was not just a policy.
It was a dream — a belief that their voices would finally find rightful space in decision-making.
that dream feels paused.
If this bill had moved ahead,
it could have accelerated change at every level —
more women leaders, stronger representation, and policies shaped with real inclusivity.
But while policy has slowed down,
the spirit of women on the ground has not.
Through our work at Gramya, with Mission Annapurna and Mission Shakti,
we see women rising every single day.
Women who once hesitated to speak
are now leading groups, earning livelihoods, and guiding others.
This makes one thing clear:
India’s journey of women empowerment cannot stop.
Yes, the bill has not progressed.
But the movement must.
Because the real change is already happening —
in villages, in homes, in small groups turning into big transformations.
And maybe this is what India needs right now:
Not just policy change from the top,
but unstoppable change from the grassroots.
The dream of 33% is still alive.
And when it becomes reality,
India will already be stronger because its women never stopped rising.
