Kalakunj Foundation, under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana and with the support of the Municipal Corporation, conducted an awareness session under the “Nirmaya Abhiyan” at Parewa Kheda Basti, Lambakheda (Bhopal). The session was organized for girls from Classes 6 to 8, focusing on menstrual hygiene and health awareness.

Through Menstrupedia Comics, menstruation was explained as a natural biological process. The students were educated about hygiene practices, the importance of using cotton sanitary pads, iron-rich nutrition, and avoiding medicines without medical consultation. Even today, many young girls hesitate to discuss menstruation with their fathers or brothers due to social stigma, and this session helped break those barriers and misconceptions.

During the session, women and adolescent girls were educated about menstrual hygiene through Menstrupedia comics, making the information simple, relatable, and easy to understand. Special focus was also given to women aged 45–50 years, where awareness was created about menopause-related physical and emotional changes, including irregular periods, excessive sweating, sleep disturbances, mood swings, fatigue, weight gain, and difficulty in concentration. Preventive measures such as a nutritious diet, regular exercise, proper sleep, stress management, and timely medical consultation were also discussed.

Participants were encouraged to use cotton sanitary pads and avoid taking medicines without professional medical advice.

At the end of the session, 89+ women and girls received free sanitary pads and Menstrupedia comics, supporting informed choices and improved health practices.
