🏳️‍⚧️ Rubaru by Youngshala on Transgender Rights

Youngshala organized a Rubaru session that opened up a safe and honest space for dialogue with members of the transgender community. The conversation explored identity, self-identification, and the difference between gender and biological s*x, while also reflecting on how social norms and rigid systems often make it difficult for individuals to express and live their identities freely.

The Resource Person from the Transgender Community spoke about the challenges they face with documentation such as ID cards and passports, where proving one’s identity can become a long and exhausting process. They also shared experiences of discrimination in public spaces like toilets, border checks, and other institutional settings, showing how these issues are part of daily life.

The session also reflected on the recently passed Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Amendment Act 2026 ⚖️, noting that the process of identity recognition may now involve multiple layers of official verification and approval. Concerns were raised about how the law defines ‘transgender’ in a limited way and groups inters*x persons within the same category, which blurs the distinction between biological s*x characteristics and gender identity. While the law speaks about recognition and protection, its implementation on the ground remains a challenge for many. The law also raises serious concerns about state overreach, particularly in relation to privacy and unlawful surveillance

The discussion further brought attention to the continued presence of transphobia in society, its deep impact on mental health , and how it often leads to exclusion from families and communities. In such a context, the importance of listening, understanding, and acceptance becomes even more crucial.

Rubaru was not just a conversation, but a step towards building empathy, dignity, and more inclusive spaces, reminding us that identity is not only personal but also shaped by social and structural realities.

This International Women's Day, we look back at the women whose courage and intellect helped shape the Constitution of India. In the halls of the Constituent Assembly of India, women like Hansa Mehta, Durgabai Deshmukh, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Dakshayani Velayudhan, and Ammu Swaminathan raised their voices for equality, dignity, and justice.

They questioned discrimination, demanded equal rights, and ensured that the Constitution reflected the dreams of a free and inclusive India. Their interventions strengthened ideas of universal suffrage, social justice, and the protection of fundamental rights. At a time when women’s participation in public life was limited, they insisted that democracy must include women not only as citizens but also as decision-makers.

Their presence in the Assembly was more than symbolic; it shaped debates on education, health, labour rights, and gender equality. As we celebrate Women’s Day today, we remember that the Constitution carries their vision...one where freedom, equality, and dignity belong to every person, without exception.

On Youth Day, Youngshala organised a special cricket match where girls and boys played together on the same field. It was more than just a game. It was about challenging taboos and changing mindsets.

Through cricket, we promoted equality, teamwork, and confidence. Boundaries stayed on the ground, not in opportunities. Everyone played with the same spirit and respect.

The match was filled with energy, laughter, cheers, and pure fun, reminding everyone that learning and change can also be joyful. The excitement on the field showed how sports can bring people together in the most natural way.

The event also created a space for Youngshala alumni to come together. This match was not about winning or losing.

It was a celebration of fun, equal participation, inclusion, and new possibilities.

Climate change is a real and growing crisis, one that is impacting us all in visible and invisible ways.

From extreme heatwaves and irregular rainfall to worsening air quality and water scarcity, its effects are no longer distant, they’re right here in our everyday lives. Yet, the conversation around climate change often remains confined to complex, technical terms that feel out of reach for many.

Through this fellowship, we set out to change that. By using different art forms, dance, pottery, poetry, paintings, comic strips, photography and documentary, we aimed to break down climate conversations into simpler, relatable, and more emotional narratives. Our goal was to make climate justice feel personal, urgent, and possible.

Our fellows led this creative charge, grounding their work in lived realities and community wisdom. Here's a glimpse of a video by .in featuring our fellows work and reflected on how these interventions sparked awareness, dialogue, and a sense of responsibility among people.

A big thank you to and .o.m.__ for giving our young minds a chance to showcase their journey!
