Bhaderwah, Dec 04:
Environment activist Sachin Singh Sambyal along with Sunny Sharma, Amarjeet Kotwal, Sandeep Kotwal, Mushtaq Ahmed, Mudassir Mughal and other members today submitted a memorandum to the Executive Officer Mr Ravi Sani, Municipal Corporation Bhaderwah, on behalf of the people of Bhaderwah
through Bhaderwah Eco-Watch (BEW) .
The memorandum focused on the urgent need to protect water bodies, including natural water springs and rivers flowing through Bhaderwah town. The delegation expressed deep concern over the increasing pollution caused by dumping of garbage and poultry waste into rivers water bodies that are among the primary attractions for ecotourists visiting the valley.
The activists highlighted that Bhaderwah valley, known for its cedar and pine forests and crystal-clear water sources, is fast emerging as a popular destination for nature lovers, drawing thousands of tourists every year. However, “some individuals are hellbent on polluting these precious water bodies,” the delegation pointed out.
The team urged the EO to construct an access road and lay tiles around natural water springs, especially the Eidgah water spring, from where thousands of residents collect fresh potable water daily. The spring was damaged during flash floods and later repaired temporarily by local activists.
Additionally, the delegation demanded:
Installation of CC cameras at different locations along the Rivers.
Construction of a public toilet at Pasari Bus Stand
Installation of lighting at the graveyard and Shamshan Ghat in Bhaderwah town
The Executive Officer gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation that all issues raised would be addressed on a priority basis.
“I am here to work for the welfare of the people of this town. My doors are open to everyone. Anyone facing issues in their locality should come to my office, and I will try my best to resolve them within departmental guidelines,” the EO said
