A Visit to Ragi Fields & Rural Enterprises at Poshina Block, Sabarkantha District

Students and faculty from CEPT University, Ahmedabad recently visited the Poshina Block of Sabarkantha District to learn about Ragi (Finger Millet) cultivation, tribal farming practices, and community-driven livelihood initiatives.

The visit gave students a firsthand look at how sustainable agriculture is transforming rural livelihoods:

1. Ragi Cultivation — Interacting with tribal farmers in their fields to understand millet farming practices. Shree Manav Utthan Trust, supported by NABARD, is working with 500 tribal women farmers in Poshina to promote sustainable agriculture and strengthen household incomes.

2. Ragi Cookies Bakery Unit — A value-addition initiative run entirely by tribal women, turning locally grown Ragi into market-ready products and creating new income opportunities.

3. Agro Centre — Operated by the Sabarmati Goat Farmer Producer Company, a farmer producer company promoted by Shree Manav Utthan Trust, showcasing how collective enterprise models support rural communities.

Celebration of Farmers' Day (Kisan Diwas)

Kisan Diwas was celebrated on 23rd December at Moxie village with the enthusiastic participation of 103 farmers, along with key stakeholders, to promote awareness on sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural practices.

The program was graced by the presence of esteemed guests including Mr. Satish Singh Sir, Mr. Nitin Jaimini Sir, Mr. Sagar Kumar (ASI) Sir, and Dr. Bahubhai H. Patel, Retired Agricultural Scientist (Plant Protection).

The session began with an introduction to i-Pragati, focusing on its vision and objectives, supporting farmers through sustainable and innovative agricultural practices, and strengthening farmers' livelihoods using modern technologies. Drip irrigation was discussed as a key intervention, highlighting the importance of water conservation, efficient utilization of water resources, reduction in water wastage and input costs, and improvement in crop productivity and yield.

Farmers were also sensitized about the importance of "Jan, Zameen aur Jalvayu" (People, Land, and Climate), emphasizing sustainable land use, responsible water management, adaptation to changing climatic conditions, and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability.

Additionally, the importance of neem leaves in agriculture was explained, focusing on natural and eco-friendly pest control, organic farming practices, reduced dependency on chemical pesticides, and improved soil health.

Overall, the celebration served as an informative and awareness-building platform for farmers, encouraging the adoption of sustainable farming practices and responsible natural resource management.

With the support of NABARD, Shree Manav Utthan Trust has successfully organized and empowered a group of 500 rural women farmers to cultivate ragi (finger millet) and enhance its value through processing. To promote local employment and entrepreneurship, the Trust inaugurated the “Ragi Bakery Unit” at Kukdi village, Poshina — an initiative dedicated to improving the livelihoods of tribal women through value addition in millet products such as ragi cookies and biscuits.

The Ragi Bakery Unit was inaugurated on 16th October 2025 by Hon. Smt. Ramilaben Bara, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), in the gracious presence of Shri B.K. Singhal (CGM, NABARD), Shri Manoj Harchandani (DDM, NABARD), Shri Nayak (CEO, SK Bank), Smt. Sonal Solanki (Member, SK District Panchayat), Smt. Anandiben Patel, and other local leaders.

The program was seamlessly conducted by Mr. Amarsinh Chauhan, Director of Shree Manav Utthan Trust, along with his dedicated team.

This initiative marks another milestone in our journey toward women’s empowerment, sustainable livelihoods, and promotion of nutritious millet-based enterprises in tribal areas.

Showcasing Tribal Entrepreneurship at the District-Level Exhibition

We are delighted to share that Meshwo Farmer Producer Company (FPC), promoted by Shree Manav Utthan Trust, actively participated in the District-Level Exhibition organized by the Government of Gujarat at Modasa, Aravalli district.

At our stall, we proudly presented a variety of high-quality, locally-produced items, including:

Fresh organic ginger and turmeric

Pure wild honey

Homemade soaps and shampoo

Traditional pickles

Laddoos made from Mahuda

Mahuda oil
..and more.

We were privileged to host distinguished guests, including the Hon'ble State Minister of Social Justice & Empowerment, the District Collector, the District Development Officer (DDO), and senior officials from the Aravalli District Administration. They commended the quality of our products and encouraged us to expand our operations to further empower our tribal women shareholders.

Quality education is one of the core focus areas of Shree Manav Utthan Trust, and access to clean drinking water is a fundamental part of that journey.
With the generous support of International India Pvt. Ltd. under its CSR initiative, we have successfully installed two RO plants with coolers at Luna and Umraya village primary schools Vadodara, Gujarat. This initiative directly benefits 943 students, ensuring they have access to safe, clean drinking water—a basic yet critical need for education.

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Shree Manav Utthan Trust organized celebrations at two locations—Lambadiya, with the support of NABARD, and Padra, in collaboration with the CSR initiative of Neogen Chemicals.

The events witnessed the presence of esteemed officials from government departments and CSR representatives, who shared valuable insights on various government schemes and programs aimed at empowering women.
