ODF Meets Brahmapur MP, Raises Brahmapur Greenfield Airport and Key Development Demands for South Odisha
Following the meeting with the Hon’ble Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Shri Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, at Kotabommali, Andhra Pradesh, regarding the need for modern and world-class air connectivity in Brahmapur, the Odisha Development Forum (ODF) delegation also met with Brahmapur MP Dr. Pradeep kumar Panigrahy on 30 August 2026.
The delegation sought his immediate intervention for strengthening air connectivity and accelerating development across Brahmapur and South Odisha.
ODF urged the Hon’ble MP to ensure the early completion of the ongoing Rangeilunda Airport (Brahmapur) works and to initiate, at the earliest, the process for establishing a full-fledged Greenfield Airport at Brahmapur with a minimum 3,000-metre runway, capable of handling larger aircraft and meeting the region’s long-term aviation, tourism, industrial and economic requirements.
Other Major Demands Raised by ODF
Apart from the airport issue, ODF placed several important demands concerning the overall development of Brahmapur and South Odisha, including:
🍎Establishment of the headquarters of the South Odisha Development Council (SODC) at Brahmapur and commencement of its functioning at the earliest.
🍎Ensuring that Brahmapur is appropriately included in major policy decisions and initiatives of the Higher Education Department.
🍎Providing adequate financial support to Berhampur University and strengthening it as a major centre of higher education and research in South Odisha.
🍎Accelerating the development and widening of major roads in Brahmapur to address the city's growing traffic and urbanisation.
🍎Expediting the proposed flyover projects, particularly Gate Bazaar, MKCG–Hill Patna, Bijipur–Old Bus Stand and First Gate–Corporation Road, to ease traffic congestion.
🍎Taking immediate and comprehensive measures to resolve Brahmapur's growing traffic problems.
🍎Ensuring visible progress on proposals for port-based industries and industrial development around Gopalpur Port, creating employment and economic opportunities for the region.
🍎Early completion of the Brahmapur Ring Road project to improve connectivity and decongest the city.
🍎Taking concrete steps towards the establishment of AIIMS and NIPER in Brahmapur, strengthening the region's healthcare, medical education, pharmaceutical research and higher education infrastructure.
MP Assures Intervention
The Hon’ble MP gave a positive response to the ODF delegation and assured that he would take up the issue with the Central Government and the State Government for the immediate completion of the ongoing Rangeilunda Airport works.
He also assured the delegation that he would discuss the other demands raised by ODF with the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha and work towards their early commencement and implementation.
ODF welcomes the positive response of the Hon’ble MP and hopes that his intervention at both the Central and State levels will provide the necessary momentum for the timely implementation of these long-pending demands.
Brahmapur and South Odisha deserve equitable development, modern infrastructure and the same opportunities available to other regions of Odisha.
