Assam Care Leavers Association registered under Indian Trust Act is envisaged as an umbrella collective of all the Care Leavers moved out of the Child Care Institutions in Assam to take care of their needs, support each other and make their voices heard.

We were honored to have an interaction with Ms. Milen Kidane, Chief of Child Protection, UNICEF India, Ms. Vandhana Kandhahari, Child Protection Specialist, and Ms. Sharmila Ray, Child Protection Specialist, on 25 June 2026 at Kalyani Nivas. It was a great opportunity for ACLA to share its journey and achievements so far.The guidance and encouragement they provided will strengthen ACLA more.

On 26 February 2026, it was a proud and inspiring moment for the Assam Care Leavers’ Association girls team. 🌸
Our members participated in an Awareness Programme on Empowerment of Adolescent Girls organized by the Department of Women and Child Development in collaboration with UNICEF at the Assam Administrative Staff College.
The programme focused on important issues like Beti Bachao Beti Padhao and Prevention of Child Marriage, promoting awareness, education, protection, and empowerment of adolescent girls. 💪✨
We are deeply honored that the Honorable Governor of Assam, Lakshman Prasad Acharya, attended the programme as the Chief Guest and interacted warmly with ACLA members. During the interaction, the Honorable Governor Sir also received and kept the ACLA Annual Report. 📘
A special moment of pride was when ACLA member Kabita Barman shared her inspiring journey — from growing up in a Children’s Home to receiving Aftercare support after the age of 18, and today living independently while working in the hotel management sector. 🌟
Her journey reflects the strength, resilience, and potential of care-experienced young people and highlights the importance of continued support for care leavers.
Together, we continue to stand for education, dignity, protection, and equal opportunities for every girl child. ❤️

A meaningful step towards inclusive child protection and rehabilitation. 🌱
The Regional Consultation Meet on “Non-Institutionalized Rehabilitation of Children with Special Needs (Divyang Children)” for the North-East Zone — comprising Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura — was successfully held on 30 January 2026 at the Assam Water Centre, Basistha.
The Assam Care Leavers’ Association (ACLA) was honored to participate in this important regional consultation, contributing to discussions on inclusive, community-based rehabilitation, aftercare support, and strengthening protection mechanisms for children with special needs.
The consultation brought together stakeholders, child protection professionals, and representatives from across the North-East to discuss sustainable and child-centric approaches that ensure dignity, inclusion, and equal opportunities for every child.
We sincerely thank State Adoption Resource Agency Assam (SARA Assam) and the State Child Protection Society Assam for organizing and facilitating this significant platform for dialogue and collaboration.

A proud and powerful moment for the Assam Care Leavers’ Association (ACLA)! 🇮🇳

On 9 April 2026, during the General Election to the Legislative Assembly, our youth with care experience stepped forward to exercise their fundamental Right to Vote—marking a big achievement in their journey toward empowerment and inclusion.

We are especially proud to share that:
✨ 18 young people voted for the first time
✨ A total of 70 care leavers participated in the election process
✨ This milestone was made possible with the continuous support and guidance of ACLA

This is more than just voting—this is about identity, dignity, and active citizenship. Our youth are not just beneficiaries, they are decision-makers shaping the future of our society.

Let’s continue to stand together to ensure every care leaver is informed, empowered, and included.

The Assam Care Leavers’ Association (ACLA) has successfully supported 100+ children in obtaining essential legal documents across different districts of Assam.

These children are transitioning out of Child Care Institutions (Children’s Homes), and access to proper legal documentation is a crucial step toward education, employment, and a secure future.

At ACLA, we remain committed to standing with care leavers and ensuring their rights, identity, and dignity are protected as they move toward independent living.
