Antara Antara Psychiatric Hospital empanelled as Class I Uni -Speciality Hospital under WBHS We operate a 200 bed Psychiatric Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre.

Antara is a Non Governmental, Non Profit, Secular, Voluntary and charitable Society established in 1971, and registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act in 1972. For the past 50 years, Antara has been engaged in the care, treatment and rehabilitation of people suffering from mental illness, drug addiction and alcoholism. This Centre, established on a 7-acre plot of land situated i

n the naturally serene and beautiful environment of South 24 Parganas, accommodates an Out Patient Department (attended by about 250 patients every day), Indoor-hospital with separate facilities for acute, sub-acute, special care, addiction treatment, day treatment, family therapy and rehabilitation facilities for children and adults. To aid in the treatment, recovery and rehabilitation of patients, there are various facilities at this centre for recreation, vocational training, work therapy, aesthetic therapy etc;

Antara also operates four Satellite Clinics in remote areas, to provide quality mental healthcare to the people who cannot come to us. The Community Mental Health unit extends a number of community based health services as well. ANTARA has become a Movement and symbol of hope for people suffering from mental health problems.

🧠 Community Mental Health Awareness Programme | Baruipur

Antara Psychiatric Hospital & Rehabilitation Centre, in collaboration with the Kolkata Psychiatric Club, organised a Community Mental Health Awareness Programme for ASHA Workers of Baruipur Block on 22 August 2026.

The programme brought together 230 ASHA workers with the aim of strengthening their understanding of mental health, promoting early identification of mental health concerns, and highlighting the vital role of frontline health workers in connecting individuals and families with appropriate care and support.

The programme was honoured by the presence of Mr. Nitish Kumar Barik, B.M.O. (Health), Baruipur, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Also gracing the occasion were Dr. Soumya Chatterjee, Chief Psychiatrist, Antara, and Mr. Nobin D. Samuel, CEO – Acting, Antara, whose presence added significance to the programme and reflected Antara’s continued commitment to strengthening community mental healthcare.

The expert sessions were led by Dr. Abir Mukherjee, Dr. Partha Kundu, Dr. Sarmistha Chakraborti, Dr. Sanchari Roy, Dr. Abhiruchi Chatterjee, Dr. Sayandip Ghosh, Dr. Partha Sarathi Kundu and Dr. Prabir Paul, who shared valuable insights and practical perspectives on mental health and community-based care.

The programme was supported by ASHA Supervisors Mr. Samir Pattawari and Mr. Milan Chandra Naskar, whose coordination played an important role in bringing together the ASHA workers for this meaningful initiative.

Through such collaborative programmes, Antara and the Kolkata Psychiatric Club continue to work towards creating greater mental health awareness at the grassroots level and empowering frontline health workers to become effective bridges between communities and mental healthcare services.

Together, let us take mental healthcare closer to every community. 💚
