It was in the year 2010, when it saw the light of the day as a dream turned reality. It was a dream, dreamt by a handful of then graduating students. With just the zeal to do something good for the society as the driving force, we set out for doing something which many people want to have but feels reluctant to do something to attain that, a beautiful society to live in. Since then, we have been c
ontinuing our voyage and we have several miles to go before we reach our final destination.So, Come and be a co voyager! Like any other start up venture, there were differences in the beginning among us too. There were differences due to perceptual gap, the way of putting thoughts into action etc etc. But because of a united and untiring effort, eventually everything worked well and we could finally turn our dreams into reality and Shubham was born on April 26, 2010. Initially we hardly had any idea about how to set up an NGO and its registration process. Along with that was the problem of finance to bear the cost of registration and other operational costs. But we were firm to pull it through. We saved our pocket money for registering it. Finally we accumulated the bare minimum of finance as contributions from 10 volunteers and registered Shubham as a society under the societies registration act. Though it is presently based at Barpeta and functions within the political boundary of Barpeta district only, but its actions are meant for the overall benefit of mankind in general. As the days are passing on, the list of activities carried out successfully by SHUBHAM is also growing long and long. What SHUBHAM has done so far?
1) Organized a cancer awareness symposium in Barpeta town in collaboration with Northeast cancer Hospital, Jorabat.
2) Conducted a survey covering all the 22 wards of the Barpeta town to find out the status of cancer patient.
3) Organized a day long program on the occasion of World Environment Day in 2011 & 2012 with support from ASTEC, Guwahati.
4) Organized a TB awareness discussion session in Barpeta town with support from the District TB cell, Barpeta
5) Supported Jeevan Initiative, a Guwahati based voluntary trust to hold its unique thought sharing event ‘Jeevan Mel” to promote positive thinking among the youth of Barpeta.
6) Organized a signature campaign among the youth of Barpeta town to create awareness about AIDS on the occasion of World AIDS Day with support from the Joint Director of Health services, Barpeta & ASACS.
7) Organized a signature campaign among the resident of Howly town, Barpeta to create awareness about TB on the occasion of World TB Day with support from the Joint Director of Health services, Barpeta.
8) Organised the District Level Children's Child Congress, (a part of NCSC) of Barpeta district under the aegis of ASTEC and DST, Govt of Assam, consecutively for two years 2012 & 2013.
9) The District Level Children's Child Congress, (a part of NCSC) of Barpeta district for the year 2014 is currently underway under the aegis of ASTEC and DST, Govt of Assam and NCSTC network.
10) Successfully conducted 'Paryvaran Mitra', the dream project of the Ex President of India, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, in 50 schools of Barpeta district. The program was conducted under the aegis of CEE.
11)Conducted a 'Safe Holi' Celebration campaign in Barpeta under the aegis of CEE and a workshop to prepare herbal color was also organised in collaboration with Barpeta Satra in 2013 & 2014.
12) As part of its 'Saakno' program, distributed books in collaboration with Zulhas Ali Fopundation, Guwahati to 10 meritorious graduating students belonging to economically weaker families of Barpeta Town area.
13) 50 students from 10 different schools of Barpeta were taken out for a daylong Nature trail to Manas National Park. The event was supported by the DFO of Barpeta Forest division & ASTC.
