Building a Stronger Mental Health Ecosystem in Northeast India

We were honored to participate in the first Northeast Meet & Greet organized by India Mental Health Alliance - IMHA in Guwahati, bringing together 26 organizations from across Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, West Bengal, and Bihar.

While our geographies and programs differ, one reality connected us all: the growing mental health challenges faced by children, youth, women, and marginalized communities.

The discussions highlighted how mental health is deeply linked with education, livelihoods, health, gender equality, disaster resilience, and social protection. Across communities, organizations are witnessing rising stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, substance abuse, loneliness, and limited access to mental health and psychosocial support services.

For us at AMAN Foundation working in the flood-prone Char-Chapori communities of Assam, these conversations resonated deeply. We see how poverty, displacement, educational disruptions, and climate-related challenges impact emotional well-being and community resilience.

What inspired us most was the collective commitment to collaborate—through shared learning, referrals, capacity building, research, and community-led solutions rooted in local realities.

The future of mental health in the Northeast lies in partnership, trust, and collective action. Together, we can create ecosystems where every individual has access to care, support, and opportunities to thrive.

We extend our gratitude to IMHA and all participating organizations for creating this important platform for dialogue and collaboration.

Knowledge today, stronger livelihoods tomorrow.
Women farmers from Kalgachia participated in a training on Scientific Goat Rearing organized by AMAN Foundation. The session focused on improved livestock management practices to enhance productivity, income, and sustainable rural livelihoods.

Glad to have participated in the two-day Inter-Agency Group (IAG) Meeting on Disaster Risk Reduction and Humanitarian Preparedness held in Guwahati on 29–30 May 2026, organized by UNICEF and Roots To Branches.

The discussions on early warning systems, anticipatory action, community feedback mechanisms, and emergency response planning offered valuable insights for strengthening community resilience and disaster preparedness.

Looking forward to applying these learnings in our work with vulnerable communities.

🌱 World Environment Day Celebrated at KIK Memorial High School, Kalgachia 🌍

On the occasion of World Environment Day, My Bharat Barpeta, in collaboration with AMAN Foundation, organized a series of environmental awareness activities at KIK Memorial High School, Kalgachia.

The programme included a tree plantation drive, campus cleanliness campaign, essay competition, extempore speech competition, and an environmental pledge-taking ceremony. More than 50 students enthusiastically participated, demonstrating their commitment to protecting nature and building a sustainable future.

Addressing the gathering, AMAN Foundation Founder Mr. Shafiul Hassan emphasized the importance of environmental conservation and collective action against climate change. Teachers and community leaders also encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly practices in their daily lives.

In the middle of the river, where reaching school means crossing water by boat, children still arrive every day with notebooks in their hands and hope in their eyes.
Their classroom stands on bamboo pillars with a tin roof. No concrete walls. No proper facilities. Yet learning continues.
Behind every class is a community refusing to give up on education. Parents opening their spaces. Teachers showing up despite the distance. Children learning with focus, curiosity, and joy even in the toughest conditions.
These moments remind us that education is not defined by buildings. It is defined by people who continue showing up for each other.
With the support of and , alongside the dedication of fellows, educators, and local communities, we continue strengthening access to education in underserved char areas where every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream.

Women from different Self Help Groups in Kharballi, Barpeta came together for a community consultation and book keeping training under the SESTA project. The session was facilitated by the Jivika Sakhi of ASRLM, who guided participants on maintaining records, managing group finances, and strengthening SHG operations.
Members actively participated, shared experiences, and learned practical ways to improve the functioning of their groups. Strong record keeping supports transparency, trust, and better financial planning within the community.

When floods return every year, communities learn to stand together.
Kasukati village in Barpeta district, Assam, faces severe flooding and river erosion every monsoon. Homes are damaged, roads disappear under water, and families struggle to protect their food, livestock, and daily essentials.
In the face of these challenges, the community chose collective action.
Villagers came together and decided to build a raised platform that could serve as a safe space during floods and emergencies. More than 110 community members, including women and youth, worked together for 10 days to complete the structure through community participation and shared effort.
Today, the platform serves as a place of safety during disasters. Families use it to protect livestock, store agricultural products, and take shelter during flood situations.
With support from Goonj, Aman Foundation provided CFW kits to all participants in recognition of their contribution and hard work.
“This platform is very helpful for us. During floods and disasters, it works as a safe place for the village people. Now this platform is our support during emergency times."
