A Social organization called ‘The Avirbhav’, situated at Bandomudna (Dist: Balangir), bearing Regd. No. 6621-01-2011-12, works exclusively in the field of Criminal Justice System and has been working exhaustively in Balangir District since last 3 years. It specifically works towards Crime Prevention, Reformation in Custody, and re-integration of prisoners and their families in the society. Avirbha
v, since then, has been working in the following areas:
Actively working to uproot crime from marginalized groups and society by using Education, livelihood and rehabilitation, by creating opportunity and sufficient awareness so as to steer them away from criminal activities, whatsoever. Working towards fair, prisoner’s policies within the criminal justice system to prevent further criminalization of first time offenders. Working to bring social equality, dignity and justice to prisoners as per the rule of law. Lobbying with the govt. authorities for the welfare of families of the prisoners. Empowering marginalized groups of society through education and creating opportunities by linking them to philanthropic institutions. Sensitization of youth and vulnerable groups against crime via organizing cultural activities in colleges. Providing equal education opportunities for the children of prisoners within the boundaries of prison. Providing counseling to hardcore criminals towards reformation and rehabilitation. Avirbhav has been closely following the Criminal Justice System in various facets only with the intention for the betterment of the system and the society at large. During such observations, it has been found by our team that there are only 13 Probation Officers, serving 30 districts of the state. Where it seems difficult for the Probation Officers to cater to the needs of all 30 districts, Avirbhav, under Section 13 of the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958. we would like to extend a helping hand to the state if you grant us permission to act probation officers (as per the Probation of Offenders Act, 1958) which may not only help the criminal justice system but will also be quite helpful in proper implementation and rehabilitation of the probationers.
