AVAS Association for Voluntary Action and Services It has been a journey of over 38 years. AVAS was born in 1980.

We share with you the glimpses of our work, the untold stories, our struggles with and for the urban poor, our tears, laughter and success. We believed in the communities abilities to fight constant threats against evictions and demolitions. AVAS led from behind to empower women and community based organizations and through their participatory actions, changed the living and housing conditions of

families in slums. AVAS’s work impacted policy changes at the state and national level. Listen to the voices from the communities and let us draw hope that indeed a better life is possible for the poor of the city.
