Goodbye, Bheema. 💙🐂
Some residents leave footprints. Bheema left hoofprints, on all our hearts.
It is impossible to think of CUPA LARRC without thinking of Bheema. For nearly 15 years, he wasn’t just a resident. He was the unofficial mascot, the welcoming committee, security, HR, quality control, and, on particularly enthusiastic days, the entire demolition department!
His story began in heartbreak.
Bheema’s mother was rescued after a terrible accident while heavily pregnant. While receiving treatment, she went into labour and brought him into the world. Heart-breakingly, she passed away soon after, her final glance resting on the tiny calf she had fought so hard to bring into it.
Raised at the CUPA Hebbal shelter, Bheema somehow decided he was actually a dog. His closest friends had four paws instead of four hooves, and he happily attended CUPA’s “board meetings,” usually without an invitation.
When he moved to LARRC in 2012, he quickly became one of its very first and most beloved residents, alongside Buffalo Bill, Snowflake and, later, Pink Floyd
Humans experienced his affection rather differently.
If Bheema loved you, he would gently, enthusiastically, affectionately head butt you. Never mind if you unexpectedly discovered you could fly five feet through the air. That was simply his love language.
We suspect Bheema believed surprise airborne training was an essential part of friendship.
Gentle, stubborn, wise, hilarious and impossibly handsome, Bheema became woven into the story of LARRC itself. Generations of staff, volunteers and animals grew up knowing that wherever Bheema stood, things somehow felt safer… unless you happened to be standing directly in front of his forehead.
Every frightened new calf found comfort in Bheema. Every new admission somehow found itself under his quiet watch. He was the calm presence that seemed to say, “You’ll be alright here.”
We hope heaven has endless green grass, plenty of dogs to supervise, and a few sturdy gates that are ready for inspection.
