Education has the power to transform not just individual lives, but entire communities.

Through the Fairtrade Premium, Pratibha- Vasudha Jaivik Krashak Kalyan Samiti established Vasudha Vidya Vihar—a school that began within the first year of Fairtrade certification and became fully operational by the third year. Since then, it has helped more than 500 students complete their higher secondary education, with many going on to pursue graduation.

The journey continues. To ensure that young people have access to higher education closer to home, 6 acres of land have been acquired to build a college for the youth of the project region. This initiative will help reduce migration, create local opportunities, and enable more young people to build brighter futures within their own communities.

Every Fairtrade-certified purchase contributes to initiatives like these—where farming communities invest in education, opportunity, and a future led by their own aspirations.

Fact! For us, promoting gender equality is a fundamental principle embedded in our Standards. We firmly believe that women should have equal opportunities within their cooperatives and the broader community because women feed the world. Supporting women can look like:

✅ Supporting local/regional gender equality initiatives through cooperative member training

✅ Discouraging discrimination based on gender/marital status, no sexual harassment/abuse and gender equality policy for farmer organizations

✅ Enhancing business skills for women farmers.

Through the Fairtrade Premium, Pratibha- Vasudha Jaivik Krashak Kalyan Samiti , in collaboration with Ekal Gramothan Sangthan, has established a vocational training centre that empowers women and youth with practical, income-generating skills.

From stitching and tailoring to computer education and salon training, these programmes are helping participants build confidence, enhance their employability, and explore new livelihood opportunities. Each trainee also receives a certificate upon successful completion, recognizing their newly acquired skills.

These initiatives go beyond training—they create pathways to financial independence, strengthen local economies, and empower communities to shape their own future.
