The best friend a deaf child can have isn't someone who already knows sign language.

It's someone who's willing to learn.

Friendship begins with curiosity. It grows through patience, understanding, and the willingness to meet someone where they are.

For deaf children, even small efforts like learning a few signs, making eye contact before speaking, or including them in a game can transform everyday experiences into moments of belonging.

This Friendship Day, let's choose to be the friend who takes the first step.

Because inclusion doesn't always start with big actions. Sometimes, it starts with learning one new way to say, "I'm glad you're here."

Every newborn deserves the opportunity to begin life with timely hearing screening.

On 24 July 2026, VAANI proudly inaugurated the Newborn Hearing Screening (NBHS) programme at YCMH – Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial Hospital.

The inauguration was attended by hospital dignitaries, representatives from Bajaj Finserv and the VAANI team, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to strengthen early hearing detection for newborns and connect families with timely intervention when needed.

Each screening is more than a medical procedure. It is an opportunity to identify hearing concerns early, support families sooner, and help children reach critical developmental milestones during the years that matter most.

Together, we are building systems that ensure no child is left behind because hearing loss was identified too late.

An inclusive society isn't created overnight.

It is built every time a teacher adapts a classroom, a healthcare worker identifies hearing loss early, a parent learns new communication strategies, a company opens its doors to inclusion, or a community chooses understanding over assumptions.

At VAANI, we work alongside families, professionals, institutions, and partners because creating opportunities for deaf children is a shared responsibility.

Lasting change happens when everyone has a role to play.

Hearing and listening are not the same thing.

For children with hearing impairment, listening is a skill that develops through practice, guidance, and the right support.

Auditory training helps children learn to recognise, understand, and respond to sounds around them. When hearing technology is combined with structured auditory processing, children achieve stronger outcomes in listening, speech, language, and overall communication.

Every sound a child learns to understand is another step towards confidence, connection, and independence.

A child's future isn't shaped by hearing loss. It's shaped by how early they receive support.

The first few years of life are critical for language, communication, and brain development. When hearing loss is identified early and children receive timely intervention, they are better equipped to develop listening, language, and learning skills that last a lifetime.

At VAANI, early intervention is about giving children the strongest possible start, so they can grow with confidence alongside their peers.

Every early step creates opportunities that last for years to come.

Behind every confident deaf child is a network of people who chose to believe in their potential.

A parent who learned to communicate differently. A teacher who adapted the classroom. A donor who made services accessible. A volunteer who shared their time. A partner who invested in inclusion.

Small acts, together, create lifelong impact.

If you've ever wondered whether one contribution can make a difference, the answer is yes.

Education doesn't end with passing exams.

For deaf young adults, the next steps can include higher education, vocational skills, workplace readiness, and independent living.

That's why VAANI's support continues beyond childhood, helping young people build confidence, develop practical skills, and prepare for meaningful careers and fuller participation in society.

Every stage of the journey matters.

Inclusion isn't built by one organisation alone.

It grows when parents, teachers, healthcare workers, schools, local leaders, volunteers, and partners work together towards the same goal.

At VAANI, every awareness session, workshop, screening camp, and community engagement brings another voice into that movement. Together, we're building communities where deaf children are recognised earlier, supported better, and included more fully.

Because lasting change is always a collective effort.

One conversation can change a child's future.

When families learn to communicate confidently with their deaf child, everyday moments become opportunities for connection, learning, and belonging.

Communication isn't just about language. It's about helping children express emotions, ask questions, build relationships, and develop confidence from an early age.

Every sign learned at home is another step towards a stronger future.

Real change begins when parents become leaders in their own communities.

On 16 and 17 July, 12 Parent Leaders from across Karnataka came together for a two-day Parent Leaders Training Programme facilitated by Inky Sen. While Inky joined virtually, the parents gathered in person, creating a hybrid learning space that combined expert guidance with peer support.

The format proved that meaningful learning doesn't always require everyone to be in the same room. With flexibility, commitment, and shared purpose, parents strengthened their facilitation skills, exchanged experiences, and prepared to support more families of deaf children in their communities.

When parents lead, awareness spreads further, confidence grows stronger, and more children receive the support they deserve.
