Do you think these five baby orangutans walked thousands of kilometres to India? šŸ¦§

They didnā€™t.

They were found here after crossing borders they never should have had to cross.

Five babies. Four separate incidents. And a story that goes far beyond one rescue.

Wildlife trafficking isnā€™t just about the animal being seized. Itā€™s about the demand, the networks, and the people willing to pay for a wild animal as a possession.

And if we only react when they are found, weā€™re already too late.

So the question isnā€™t just ā€œWhere did these orangutans come from?ā€
Itā€™s ā€œHow did they get here in the first place?ā€

We had the wonderful opportunity to spend time with an enthusiastic batch of school students, introducing them to the basics of animal welfare, simple myths vs. facts, and the importance of inclusivity with basics of sign language in todayā€™s world. šŸ¾

It was inspiring to see their curiosity, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. We truly believe that nurturing empathy and awareness in young minds can help create a kinder and more inclusive world for both people and animals.

A heartfelt thank you to Praanaā€™s amazing volunteers for supporting this mission and helping us make these conversations possible.

And a big thank you to DPS South for giving us this opportunity and for supporting our efforts to educate and empower young minds.

Hey, did you know most calico cats are female?
Turns out the genes that determine their distinctive patches of black and orange fur colors are located on the X chromosome, one of the two s*x chromosomes (X and Y) in mammals. What looks like a harmless sway can tell a very different story. šŸ˜

Repeated rocking, swaying and pacing are examples of stereotypic behaviours that can occur in captive animals and can be associated with stress, frustration, boredom or inadequate stimulation.

The term ā€œzoochosisā€ is commonly used to describe repetitive abnormal behaviours seen in captive animals.

The next time you see an elephant rocking alone, donā€™t just watch the movement.

Look for the reason behind it.

Because sometimes, behaviour is the only language an animal has.
