Dhwani Foundation at the ‘Vibrant Odisha Conclave 2026’, Bhubaneswar.

Over the past 20 months, our work in Odisha has focused on Organisation Change Management (OCM) for grassroots NGOs so they can operate with stronger systems, clearer processes, and greater stability.

Today, 120+ grassroots organisations across the state are part of this journey. Many are closely connected to their communities, working on programs in such diverse domains as livelihoods, education, health, disability, rural development. Through sustained engagement, they have strengthened governance practices, improved financial and compliance systems, and adopted technology to manage programmes and track progress more effectively.

This has led to a visible shift in how organisations function. They are better positioned to access funding, navigate regulatory requirements, and make informed, data-backed decisions, while continuing to serve their communities with consistency and credibility.

At the ‘Vibrant Odisha Conclave 2026’, organised by Indus Valley Times in partnership with the Centre for Socio-Economic Studies, this work was recognised with the Best Development Organisation Award 2026. The award was received by mihir mohanty, Asst. Director – East & Northeast Region, Dhwani Foundation.

This recognition belongs to our 120+ grassroots partners across Odisha who have trusted us on this OCM journey to build their organisations towards growth, resilience, and sustainability.

It also reflects the growing role of strong grassroots organisations in shaping Odisha’s development journey. Odisha's development goals are ambitious. Whether they are met will depend significantly on how strong the grassroots organisations working closest to communities actually are. This recognition reinforces why that matters.

Dhwani Foundation is honoured to have Saroj Mahapatra as a Panelist for our upcoming 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐬+ 𝐖𝐞𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐚r on 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨 𝐰𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐛𝐲 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐜𝐭?

Saroj Mahapatra is the Executive Director of Pradan, with more than 27 years of experience working across State Government projects, multi-stakeholder networks, and national and international development initiatives.

Over the years, he has collaborated with institutions and programmes such as WFP, IFAD, UNICEF, MGNREGA, and NRLM, with a strong focus on participatory planning processes that centre marginalised households in the remotest regions of Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh.

Having worked directly with poor communities in the tribal belts of Central India, Saroj brings deep field-based insights into livelihoods, natural resource management, and community-led development. He has also been instrumental in preparing the Integrated Natural Resource Management manual for MGNREGA implementation under the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

His journey reflects a commitment to strengthening systems from the ground up where policy frameworks translate into meaningful change for the most underserved communities.

We are privileged to have him join us for a candid conversation on what we really mean by impact moving beyond metrics, outputs, and reporting frameworks to reflect on the deeper, long-term change we seek to create.

We all want our work to make a difference, but in the rush to meet deadlines and fill out reports, do we stop to ask: are we measuring what matters, or just what’s easy?

This webinar is an open invitation to everyone in the social sector—donors, NGO teams, board members, students, and consultants—to have a down-to-earth conversation about the reality of doing good. We aren’t looking for perfect answers or polished presentations. Instead, we want to reflect on the honest challenges we all face:

How do we balance the need for quick results with the fact that real change takes time?
How can we make data more useful for communities, not just for donor reports?
Whether you’re funding the work or implementing it on the ground, this is a conversation that concerns you.

𝐏𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬:
1. Reshma Anand – Regional Director, Ford Foundation
2. Saroj Mahapatra – Executive Director, Professional Assistance For Development Action (PRADAN)
3. Richa G. – Vice Chancellor, Azim Premji University
𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫:
Srikrishna Sridhar Murthy – Trustee, Dhwani Foundation / Co-Founder & CEO, Sattva Consulting

The discussion will explore:
• How different stakeholders define “impact”
• The tension between measurable results and long-term, systemic change
• How donors and NGOs can move beyond outputs toward meaningful outcomes
• Practical ways to align data and measurement with real-world change
If you care about moving past checkboxes and getting closer to the heart of real change, join us.

Building an NGO is deeply challenging. The uncertainties are far greater than in most other institutions, and many Founders devote a large part of their lives to this work, often setting aside personal priorities and aspirations.

Across the country, vulnerable communities have been able to move forward in their lives because committed NGO leaders have stayed the course and ensured that their work continues consistently over time.

Such organisations are not easily rebuilt. When a Founder grows older or finds it harder to continue at the same pace, it is rarely possible to recreate the same organisation, relationships, and impact in that community. Dhwani Foundation believes that this legacy and the work built over decades must continue–by supporting Founders and organisations to thoughtfully build the next generation of leadership, so the work goes on.

Dhwani Foundation is launching the 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦: a structured, long-term initiative designed specifically for Indian NGOs that want to plan succession thoughtfully and responsibly. The program 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐬 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬, 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐞𝐝 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝-𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 to navigate leadership transition in a methodical, supported, and values-driven way.

If you are a Founder who has identified a potential second-line leader but are unsure how to transition…
If your Board is committed to leadership continuity but needs a clear framework…

If you want to ensure that your organisation’s purpose , and its work, continues beyond you.

We invite you to explore this program and join us in building leadership continuity for the social sector.

A milestone moment for 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐬 in 𝐉𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 was marked last week, with a Graduation and a Launch.
We celebrated the 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐮𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 of the very first batch of 𝐍𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐉𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝–our flagship 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐞 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐎𝐂𝐌) 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦–𝐢𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐡𝐢. On the same day, we welcomed 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 into this OCM journey through the 𝐋𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐡 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐦.
Dhwani Foundation congratulates the outgoing NGO Partners, as we got a chance to acknowledge the journey of 28 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐭𝐬 𝐍𝐆𝐎𝐬 that worked steadily to strengthen their organisations over the last two years. And we welcome our 31 𝐒𝐚𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐦 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬 who will join this journey, for the next 12 months.
The day brought together NGO leaders, sector practitioners, donors, and institutions for conversations on governance, second-line leadership, collaboration, and fundraising for grassroots and rural organisations. The discussions stayed close to practice, drawing from real organisational journeys, constraints, and choices that grassroots NGOs navigate daily.
With Saksham now underway and the 𝐍𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐀𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐧𝐢 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 coming together, this marked both a graduation and a launch - two important steps in continuing the work with grassroots NGOs in Jharkhand. Dhwani Foundation congratulates the Niranthara Classic Batch 1 partners on their OCM journey and welcomes the Saksham partners as they begin theirs.
