Conservation of wildlife and wild lands in Karnataka. We work on Wildlife Research, Community-based Conservation, Conflict Mitigation and Outreach.

Also a Nature Information Centre for the masses (Closed on Tuesdays) We also run alternative livelihoods programmes, and design and procure products to help local communities through sales. Proceeds from all sales go towards the local communities and funding our work.

Six years can change a lot, including your place in the classroom.

Bhavishya first visited HNIC as a student in 2019. When she returned recently, she was on the other side of the experience, accompanying her students from GHS Ramapura.

We asked her about her first visit, what she remembered and what it meant to return to HNIC as a teacher.

A day of wildlife, films, masks and a little insect detective work! 🐆🪲

40 students and 3 teachers from GHS Ramapura spent the day at HNIC exploring the natural world through a leopard face-mask activity, a short local documentary and the Cauvery film trailer.

They also put their observation skills to the test with a fun activity to identify different characteristics of insects.

A lovely detail from the visit: one of the teachers had first visited HNIC as a student in 2019, and came back this time with her students. 🌿

A forest has its own rhythms. What happens when the rains fall out of step?

Dr. Sanjay Gubbi reflects on an unusually dry year near Bandipur, where less than half the usual rainfall has altered the landscape in ways both visible and subtle — from early leaf-shedding and flowering to quieter nights and changing wildlife conditions.

What does it mean to live with wildlife in an urban jungle?

Dr. Sanjay Gubbi will be part of Wild Cities, a conversation with Rocky Singh and Neha Sinha at the inaugural Corbett Literature Festival.

Rooted in the Corbett landscape, the three-day festival brings together writers, scientists, photographers, historians, conservationists and storytellers to explore nature, wildlife, culture and our relationship with the wild.

We organised a session with acclaimed British children’s author and science and nature writer Catherine Barr, bringing young minds closer to nature, wildlife and conservation through the stories in her books.

With over 35 books to her name, including Fourteen Wolves and The Tigers’ Tale, Catherine draws on her experience as a writer and former editor at London’s Natural History Museum to bring the natural world to life through storytelling.

We're grateful to Catherine for sharing her wonderful stories & helping inspire a new generation of young nature enthusiasts 💚🌱

As part of our ongoing efforts to strengthen ground-level capacity in wildlife conservation and promote scientific approaches to wildlife management, we continued our training programme for Beat forester trainees at the Karnataka Forest Academy, Kushalnagar.

Many of these trainees will soon be posted in protected areas, making opportunities to build practical knowledge and a stronger understanding of wildlife conservation especially valuable.

We thank the Karnataka Forest Academy for inviting us to be part of this collaborative effort and for giving us the opportunity to engage with the next generation of frontline forest personnel.

What keeps wildlife connected when the landscape around it is changing? 🌿

Wildlife corridors are the pathways that allow animals to move between fragmented habitats, giving species like tigers, elephants and leopards access to food, water, mates and larger connected landscapes. As forests are divided by roads, development and other human activity, these connections become increasingly important to understand and protect.

As we continue the conversation around wildlife corridors through The Last Pathways: Wildlife Corridors of Karnataka, we’re revisiting our film Understanding Wildlife Corridors, which explores why these hidden pathways matter and the efforts needed to protect them.

And... we’re airborne✈️

This four-horned antelope (𝘛𝘦𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘦𝘳𝘶𝘴 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘴) was caught mid-jump by one of our camera traps. One of India's smallest antelopes, the four-horned antelope is found in dry deciduous forests, scrub and woodland habitats.
