Ashwini Charitable Trust

Ashwini Charitable Trust Ashwini Charitable Trust fondly referred to as “ACT” by its Trustees, Volunteers and Sponsors - is an Thousands of children are dreaming. Take this step.

Ashwini Charitable Trust fondly referred to as “ACT” by all the people who run it – Trustees, Volunteers and Sponsors - is a Non Governmental Organization that was started in the year 2000 by a group of women to educate and empower underprivileged children of Ulsoor slums in Bangalore. After 20 years it is still run by women with more than 200 dedicated volunteers supporting them. The Trust was re

gistered in 15th December 2000 in Bangalore, and named after the first child it sponsored-- ASHWINI. Our logo has the foot print of a little child to symbolize that all our giant leaps start off with small steps. We also hope that every child’s hesitant step in the initial years metamorphose into confident strides in life. ACT is a growing organisation in every way: we began in 1st April 2000 with 9 children and now have 305 children with us as of 2020-2021. When we began, education meant paying the children's fees and helping them improve their study skills. Now, the education that every child at ACT gets is an all round development programme that ensures every child's physical, mental and emotional
wellness. A small step by you can be a giant leap for many children. And help someone take their next. Please contact us for further information about sponsoring and volunteering.

🌱 Understanding Before Acting: A Core Value at Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT) 🌱
In the NGO world, truly knowing your subject is half the battle won. Just as businesses must deeply understand their product, we too must deeply understand the lives of the communities we serve—because only then can we earn trust, seek meaningful funding, and create real impact.

At Ashwini Charitable Trust (ACT), where we nurture, educate, and care for underprivileged children over 18–20 years, this philosophy is not optional—it’s fundamental.
We believe a child cannot be understood in isolation, but only within their ecosystem—their home, family dynamics, economic realities, and environment. That’s why every new recruitment at ACT begins with a thorough home visit. Trustees personally take the time to meet families, understand their struggles, and see first-hand the conditions shaping each child’s life.
This practice is not just about due diligence—it is about respect, empathy, and authenticity. Decisions based on hearsay or assumptions can be rash and insensitive. But when we walk into a child’s home, listen to their story in their own context, and acknowledge their lived reality, we begin to build the foundation for lasting change.
At ACT, this is not just a process—it’s our hygiene practice. Because to be true torchbearers of change, we must first step into the lives we hope to transform.

Since 2000, ACT has been more than just a place—it has been a home, a foundation, and a launchpad for hundreds of children.
Today, 26 years later, our alumni stand as living proof of that journey. They are thriving, successful, and most importantly, still deeply connected.
They come back.
They show up.
They give back.
From attending Annual Days to volunteering their time, mentoring the next generation, and contributing in countless ways—our alumni remind us that what ACT builds is not temporary support, but lifelong bonds.
This is the true measure of impact.
Not just where our children go, but how they choose to return.
