We recently hosted students from the Diploma Program in Teaching Children with Learning Disabilities at Azim Premji University at Colours.

What does learning look like in practice? Bridging theory and practice is where real understanding begins, and engagements like these make that possible.

At the Global Autism Convention 2026, at St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore, Ms. Bela Joshi presented The Colours Approach — an arts-based curriculum grounded in structured pedagogy and Dynamic Behaviour Transformation (DBT is an approach developed in-house at Colours for autism).

Too often, art for children on the spectrum is reduced to recreational craft.
 But thoughtful curriculum design can offer:
• sensory regulation • executive functioning development • visual-motor integration • emotional processing
• spatial reasoning
• instructional compliance
• independent thinking
• confidence building

Art is not an “extra.” It is a developmental tool. A language. A bridge.
