Pichai joined Google in 2004 before working as a management consultant for http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McK....
Let me tell you some interesting facts about Sunder Pichai :
1. He was the topper in the metallurgical batch from the first year itself. It was the flexibility of the IIT system that allowed him to pursue his interest in electronics while being a student of metallurgy.
2. He won Institute Silver Medal for excellence in academics.
3. He was doing work in the field of electronics at a time when no separate course on electronics existed in that curriculum. His thesis dealt with implanting molecules of other elements in silicon wafers to alter its properties. It was very clear from the beginning that he was enthused about electronics and materials.
4. He began his career at Google by heading the teams behind Google’s Chrome browser and operating system. Soon he would get the added responsibility of Google Toolbar, desktop search, among others. He convinced a number of manufacturers to install the Toolbar on their machines, which would result in Google search being easily accessible on hundreds of millions of desktops worldwide.
5. He was approached by Twitter to lead Product, but he ultimately declined the offer.
6. He was also rumored to be in the fray to replace Steve Ballmer as Microsoft’s CEO, before it went to Satya Nadella.
7. Recently he has taken over almost everything Google has to offer. A few exceptions are the business division, YouTube, Google’s access and energy division, Next, Google X, which will still be headed by Page.
8. He is believed to be the man responsible for keeping smooth ties with partners like Samsung. He recently also launched the Android One initiative in India by teaming up with local manufacturers like Micromax, Spice and Karbonn.
9. Maarten Hooft who worked at Google for six years said, the difference between Page and Pichai is that Larry can take on that blue sky vision. He's not afraid of setting an audacious goal. Whereas I think Sundar is more of a great operator. While Larry and Sergey [Brin] have these visions and can start these initiatives, I think it's Sundar that's the guy that can just get it done. He can assemble the team, he can appoint the right people, and he's the one that makes it happen.
He is a great Business man.
