Expansion is not just about growing in numbers. It’s about creating space. Space for new ideas to emerge, for new people to step forward, and for what already exists to evolve into something that fits a new context.

This spirit of growth and adaptation came to life during the Training of Trainers (ToT) program hosted at the Buzz Women Hub in The Gambia, where new partner teams from Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire gathered for a transformative week of learning and exchange.

The ToT program was jointly facilitated by Buzz Women Gambia and Buzz Women Global, bringing together familiar faces and new ones united by a shared purpose: to prepare these partners to deliver the Inner Strength Training and the Inspirational Fellowship Program in their own countries.

Throughout the week, participants received hands-on coaching from Buzz Women Gambia trainers, combining curriculum deep dives with role-playing exercises and field visits. The approach was practical, reflective, and deeply human, rooted in the belief that real transformation begins when people connect with their own inner power.

This Training of Trainers marks a significant step in the implementation of the Buzz Women program in new countries. By the end of the week, it was inspiring to see how the teams from Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire had grown with skills and knowledge. Now ready to bring transformation to the doorsteps of women in their own communities.💛

Anasia Ulomi, an Anchor Woman from the Buzz Women program is part of the Neema women group in Sembeti Village at Marangu.

Through the training Anasia discovered her true potential as a leader. She shares “These trainings helped me realize that I am a leader, I now understand leadership more deeply and I have been able to apply my skills. My community recognizes me as a role model and I teach others what I have learnt which they put into practice”.

During the Conflict resolution module, she learned how to address the different types of conflicts that arise in communities. She explains “it is not about who wins, but it is all about bringing people together so everyone can win.”

Asha is literally driving change in her community.

Through the Spoorthi Fellowship, she was inspired by the idea of building a model village. That vision led her to take up the role of a municipal garbage truck driver in Ramanagara. Despite the stigma surrounding this work, she accepted it wholeheartedly—driving through 11 villages each day, collecting waste, and encouraging segregation and cleanliness.

With this choice, Asha has not only strengthened her family’s income but also brought dignity and visibility to work that keeps communities healthy.

“We have to work together to make a change.”

In Prashanth Nagar, Kolar, 48-year-old Gowribai did just that.

After completing every single one of Buzz Women’s programs—financial literacy, leadership, climate action, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement—she mobilised her self-help group to tackle two long-standing issues in her locality: a clogged drainage and broken streetlights.

With collective pressure and persistence, the drainage was cleaned, the streetlights fixed, and her neighbourhood is now healthier and safer for everyone.

But Gowribai’s work didn’t stop there.

She now helps other women apply for ration cards and pensions. She grows plants in her small compound and avoids plastic. And she’s gearing up to launch a business producing reusable cloth sanitary pads—combining health awareness with environmental sustainability.

From homemade ragi laddus in Chikkaballapur to a café counter in Bangalore, Jagadambika has been shaping her own path as an entrepreneur. What started with Rs. 25,000 from her savings has turned into a small business that’s steadily growing—week by week, sale by sale.

She’s one of 650 women entrepreneurs across Karnataka who are part of the Buzz Vyapar program this year. The program doesn’t give business ideas. It focuses on clarity—on pricing, recordkeeping, understanding customers, setting goals, and identifying what’s working and what’s not.

After the training, women continue meeting in Vyapar Clubs to track progress and share what’s unfolding in their businesses. At the village level, Community Anchors (trained through Self Shakti and the Spoorthi Fellowship) host monthly Beehives. These are spaces where women reflect, navigate challenges, and stay connected to the larger journey they’re part of.

With support from OakNorth, we’re deepening this work, ensuring that women like Jagadambika not only access learning, but have the space to shape it with each other.

Before joining the Buzz Women training in 2023, Marilyn Minja from Tanzania, was running her hairdressing business without any understanding of financial management. “I didn’t know anything about customer care, business relationships, or even how to keep financial records,” she recalls.

As a mother, she would often withdraw all the money from her business sometimes up to TZS 100,000 and spend it at the market without any plan, often buying things she didn’t need. “I realised I had no budgeting skills, and it affected everything.”
