Karunashraya Bangalore Hospice Trust : Karunashraya, is a joint project of the ​Indian Cancer Society (Karnatak

Bangalore Hospice Trust (BHT) – Karunashraya, meaning ‘an abode of compassion’, is a registered public charitable trust and a joint project of the Indian Cancer Society (Karnataka Chapter) and Rotary Bangalore Indiranagar, providing free professional palliative care for cancer patients who are beyond cure, post active treatment. In 20 years of service, we have rendered care for over 14,000 advanced cancer patients and their families via our 55 bed Inpatient total care hospice and home care service. We also provide patient/family advisory services and conduct Training programmes for Health Professionals and Health Assistants. We welcome you to visit/connect with us as we depend on support from of well-wishers to help 'Add Life to Days' of patients and their families when there is little else left!

Workshop on Breaking Bad News; Compassionate Communication

Bagchi Karunashraya Palliative Care Centre, Bhubaneswar, in collaboration with Team Umeedein, conducted an interactive workshop for around 50 participants from NGOs, healthcare institutions, and community organisations.

Through presentations, role plays, and group activities, participants explored ways to communicate difficult news with empathy, sensitivity, and compassion.

A heartfelt thank you to Team Umeedein and all participants for making this a meaningful learning experience!

On 10 October 2026, Karunashraya, Bengaluru, and Bagchi Karunashraya, Bhubaneswar, came together to reaffirm a shared commitment to compassionate palliative care.

With a focus on “Pain Management: An Essential Part of Palliative Care,” the day highlighted the importance of holistic care that addresses not just physical pain, but also the emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of patients and their families.

Because palliative care is more than managing pain—it is about comfort, compassion, and dignity at every stage of life.

Sometimes, comfort comes with four paws and a wagging tail.

At Karunashraya, as part of our monthly Self-care circle, pet therapy brought joy, comfort, and companionship to our staff. These gentle interactions built connection and brightened an otherwise challenging workday.

A brief time, a warm cuddle, and a lot of unconditional love. 🐾

We are grateful to our NGO partner, Charlie Animal Rescue Center (CARE), for bringing these special moments of meaningful engagement to Karunashraya.
