📢FAS welcomes Ruthu C. A. to our team as a Research Officer!

Ruthu holds a Master's degree in Economics from the Central University of Tamil Nadu. His research interests include the study of the rural workforce in India, survey data analysis, and data visualisation. He has undertaken various academic and administrative roles and has worked as a Technical Assistant with the Kerala State Planning Board.

On May 26, 2026, the research team of the Foundation for Agrarian Studies held a meeting to review the progress of its ongoing project, “The Dynamics of Agricultural Innovation in North India,” which is being undertaken in collaboration with Monash University and ICAR–National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources.

The participants included Madhura Swaminathan, Principal Investigator of the project and Trustee of the Foundation, and V. Namasivayam, Trustee of the Foundation; R. Ramakumar, and V. Surjit (online), Advisory Team Members for the project; Sherry R. Jacob, Project Lead (online); Manoj Patel (online); Sandipan Baksi, Co-Principal Investigator and Director of the Foundation; Tapas S. Modak, Project Manager; and team members Harshan T. P., Ajil Mankunnummal, Kristy Saikia, and Daya Susan Thomas.

The team discussed the progress of the ongoing work and the next phase of the study, including the upcoming survey.

The meeting provided an opportunity for detailed review and feedback from these experts.

A research team from FAS visited Andhra Pradesh as part of a scoping visit under the Project on Agrarian Relations in India (PARI) between March 28 and April 1, 2026. The team comprised Arindam Das, Joint Director, FAS, and Sai Chandan Kotu, Senior Research Assistant at the Foundation.

As part of the visit, the team held discussions with a range of stakeholders and is now preparing an internal report to inform the next steps.

On May 20, 2026, Dr. T. Sundaraman, an independent consultant and adjunct faculty in the JIPMER International School of Public Health, Puducherry, visited the Foundation for Agrarian Studies office. The meeting was attended by Mr. V. Namasivayam, Trustee of the Foundation; Professor V. K. Ramachandran, Trustee of the Foundation; Dr. Sandipan Baksi, Director; Dr. Arindam Das, Joint Director; and Dr. Tapas Modak, Joint Director.

The purpose of the visit was to discuss the project undertaken by the Foundation for Agrarian Studies (FAS), funded by the World Health Organization (WHO), in consultation with Dr. T. Sundararaman. The study aims to review health systems in Sri Lanka and participate in the WHO South-East Asia Region Primary Health Care (PHC) Forum, to develop policy recommendations for delivering sustainable and universal health care through Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the region. Detailed deliberations on the project were held during the visit.

The discussions were very fruitful, and we look forward to strengthening and deepening this collaboration in the future.

The FAS team visited the Department of Economics, Christ University, Bangalore, Yeshwanthpur Campus on May 15, 2026. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen academic and research collaboration between the two institutions under the existing Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The discussions were led by Dr. Sandipan Baksi, Director, FAS, and Dr. Vineeth Mohandas, HoD, Department of Economics, CHRIST. Dr. Arindam Das, Joint Director; Dr. Tapas Modak, Joint Director, and Dr. Harshan T. P., Associate Research Fellow from FAS, were also part of the visiting team. This was an occasion to share research ideas and explore possibilities for future collaboration. We hope these discussions will pave the way for joint initiatives between the FAS and the Department of Economics, CHRIST.
