Under Section 199A of the Motor Vehicles Act, parents or guardians can be held responsible if a minor drives/rides or commits a traffic violation while driving. Penalties may include a fine of ₹25,000, imprisonment of up to 3 years, and suspension of the vehicle's registration for 12 months. We are proud to announce that Adv Ashwini and Adv Shashidhara recently secured a stay from the Hon'ble High Court of Karnataka on criminal proceedings initiated against one of our clients. She was arrested wrongfully and was not given an opportunity of being heard before the Magistrate, as per Law. Last week, we also successfully secured bail for her.

Dowry harassment, such as demands for money or property, and mental or physical abuse and humiliation by the husband or his relatives is a punishable offence under Section 85 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

It is a cognizable offence, allowing police to register an FIR without prior court approval. Victims can seek criminal action under BNS and the Dowry Prohibition Act, along with civil remedies under the Domestic Violence Act, including protection orders, residence rights, and monetary relief.

Dowry is not tradition, it is a crime.
