Are we teaching boys what they can be - or only what they shouldn't do?

In our recent Growing Up Male webinar, Maya Menon was in conversation with Aisha Syed Asif (Fight Club India) and Mohammed Essam Manzoor (Sr.Coordinator Training & Teacher Support) to talk about the quiet ways gender stereotypes still show up in our schools - and what it would really take to change them.

From a 1965 government report on gender bias to a 2026 classroom in a small Indian town, the conversation is a reminder that some conversations take generations to fully land.

Teachers at Sishu Griha spent time recently in two workshops that got them thinking hard about their classrooms, one on Teaching as Relationships, and one on Brain Based Learning & Multiple Intelligences.

One asked them to look inward: how much of their own school experience shapes the way they teach today, often without them realising it. The other was more hands-on: teachers experienced a simulated stressful environment to feel firsthand how pressure affects learning, and explored how something as simple as classroom tone or space can change how students engage.

Two workshops, a lot to sit with, and a shared thread: teaching with more intention.

Episode 1 of OLAGANNU (The Inner Eye) is out now πŸŽ™οΈ

This episode looks at the human heart as a battlefield - compassion, patience, and truth constantly contending with anger, ego, and stubbornness. It's a powerful reminder of why self-awareness and self-management matter so much, for teachers and students alike.

True success, the episode reminds us, isn't about wealth or achievement - it's about inner peace and responsible decision-making.

Last Friday's webinar on Growing Up Male: Examining Boyhood, Masculinity & Schools left us with a lot to think about.

Ayesha Syed Asif (Founder, Fight Club India) and Mohammed Manzoor (Sr. Coordinator, TTF), in a conversation moderated by Maya Menon, brought warmth and honesty to questions that don't have easy answers - about how boys grow up, what schools can do differently, and what it might take to foster healthier relationships between boys and girls.

If there was one thing that came through clearly, it was this: change doesn't always require big interventions. It lives in micro-moments - in how a teacher responds, in the spaces schools create, in the biases we are willing to examine in ourselves.

We hope this is the beginning of many more such conversations, transcending webinars and going into staffrooms and classrooms.

Loving yourself doesn't mean always succeeding. It means facing disappointment with honesty, kindness, and perspective.
Rejection is part of growing up - a tough grade, not making the team, a college or job that says no, heartbreak. Kids don't need protection from this. They need preparation for it.

Teach them to wear an investigator's hat: What can I learn here? What was in my control? What wasn't? What would I do differently?
Let them feel the disappointment - without letting it become a story about their worth.

Not every closed door is a failure. Some lead us elsewhere. Rejection is an event, not an identity - and that's the lesson worth passing on.
