A Human Being in Progress
Born to Kamesh Dakoju and Indira Kamesh in 1953, Ravishankar Dakoju is an Indian real estate investor, entrepreneur and the current member of Rotary Club of Bangalore. He is also the Past President of Rotary Bangalore Orchards, a charitable trust instituted under Rotary International. He is also the Founder and Managing Director of Hara Housing and Land Development Company, a real estate firm based in Bengaluru. Ravishankar is married to Paola Ravishankar and they have two daughters, Ektaa and Samta, which means unity and equality.
His father, inspired by the philosophy of Vinoba Bhave’s Bhoodan Movement, had given away all his land for the betterment of the poor. Staying true to his father’s philanthropic legacy, Ravishankar Dakoju became the first Indian to announce the single largest community development fund of INR 100 Crores (USD 14.7 Million) for Rotary Foundation; second only to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
As a philanthropist driven to solve the challenges in our society, Ravishankar Dakoju has planned and executed an endless array of developmental projects in domains like health, education, sanitation, community development, orphaned children, ecological conservation, animal welfare, lake rejuvenation and more. He firmly believes that it is his duty to do whatever it takes to ensure that the individuals from underserved communities are able to advance in their lives and leave a mark on our society. When it comes to philanthropy, Ravishankar Dakoju considers his work as more of an obligation to society than a mere contribution.
