EnAble India

EnAble India EnAble India is an NGO working for economic independence of persons with disabilities. Thus agency gained by PwD leads to Active Citizenship.

EnAble India (EI) a non-profit organization, working on the ground for the last 2 decades and impacting thousands of Persons with disability. Our vision is a world where persons with disability are tax payers, active citizens and nation builders. We believe that the nation and the world will benefit from seeing persons with disability as change agents and serve as a constant reminder for the need

for inclusion of everybody. Where people reach their full potential by finding solutions and learn to value each other through constant inclusion. The perception of Persons with disability as dependent and non-contributing members of society will transform. To attain this vision, EI is on a mission to build a sustainable Livelihood Ecosystem for millions of PwDs to attain a dignified life while having a positive impact on the economy and society. This will lead to a paradigm shift where PwDs are tax payers (via various forms of livelihoods), active citizens and nation builders, will lead to shift in consciousness for society. Active citizenship means people getting involved in their communities and democracy at all levels from local to national and global. Often PwD are precluded from taking on active citizenship roles due to economic, social and political disempowerment. We aim to build 21st century skills in persons with disability enabling dignified livelihoods leading to economic, social and political empowerment. Enable India has catered to the needs of 14 disabilities thus far. These disabilities include Vision Impairment, Hearing Impairment, Locomotor Disability, Neuro Diversity, Severe and Multiple Disabilities. We have impacted 220,000+ individuals including persons with disabilities and their families in 28 states in India. In the past 20 years Enable India has collaborated with 725 companies and 229 partner organizations across 1050 locations in 27 countries. We have opened up 291 job roles across 22 sectors. We have built 12+ models and frameworks train employable persons with disability, and includable leaders capable of leading the change. Enable India sustained ongoing engagement with various companies and partner organizations through ecosystem development by providing holistic solutions, services, and opportunities. Enable India focuses on creating a supply of employable job seekers with disabilities while creating the demand in companies through our awareness and leadership programs. At Enable India persons with disability are encouraged to use innovative workplace solutions to overcome their challenges, assisting them to work with efficiency, quality and excellence like any other employee. This promotes an inclusive culture at workplace and employees with disabilities to live up to their potential. Enable India’s models and content are used across many organizations not only in India but also in Africa, Asia, Europe and America. PwD in India are earning salaries at par with their non-disabled counterparts and infact salaries which surpass the Annual Median per capita income of $616 – Persons with vision impairment, hearing impairment and physical disability have got salaries that are 43 times and persons with neurodiversity up to 14 times the median salary. This in a world where it is legal to pay PwD lower salaries than non-disabled in many countries. 81% PwD once earning contribute to their family incomes and over 35% are the primary bread winners

What we recognize through Project Discovery goes by many names.

Innovations. Jugaad. DIY assistive solutions. Quick fixes.

But they all come from the same place — people with disabilities and members in the community finding creative ways, creating simple lost cost assistive solutions to overcome everyday barriers.

On May 21st, Global Accessibility Awareness Day, we officially launched Project Discovery 7! 🎉

Over the last 6 editions, Project Discovery has grown from a platform to a community-driven movement. We created this with the belief that innovation belongs to everyone, a thought that was reflected during the launch event, where previous winners, allies, changemakers, and disability community members shared their journeys and ideas.

Our COO and Trustee, Moses Gorrepati, spoke about how in today’s AI-driven world, lived experience and contextual intelligence matter more than ever. The new edition was officially launched by disabled model and motivational speaker, Virali Modi and international partner, from Al Noor CRID, Anju Manoj, who went on to say:

“Project Discovery does not just recognize innovators — it connects people and transforms local ideas into global opportunities.”

We also heard from EnAble India’s Founder and Chief Enabler, Shanti Raghavan, who spoke on building this movement through communities and district-level institutions. Sayomdeb Mukherjee led a conversation on local leaders who can reach grassroots innovators and amplify community-driven solutions.

We’re back after a successful 6 year run, and we cannot wait to see all the innovations!

And the support didn’t stop at training—the program continued to guide him even after he opened his shop, with GarvSe center officers who reach out to trouble shoot any challenges that arise.

The EDP program was conducted with the support of the District Rural Self Employment Training Institutes (RESETI) in Kulgam, Jammu & Kashmir, and the GarvSe Centre, Voluntary Medicare Society.

Rayees earns Rs.700 per day and has now become financially independent.

His father and sister are his supporters. His neighbours and community members are his cheerleaders.

Have you ever wondered, how individuals with vision impairment match their clothes?

AI is one of the solutions they use!

It might seem like an unusual task for an AI to do, but it's actually used by a few of our colleagues with vision impairment to match clothes, and even earrings!

But that's not the only solution being adopted. Check out the post below and you'll find many more.

Have you ever used such solutions? Drop a comment below.
