The Centre for Educational and Social Studies (CESS) Bengaluru convened a multi-stakeholder consultation on NEET-UG reforms at Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bengaluru, on 10 September 2026. The consultation brought together over fifty participants to deliberate on critical issues concerning the conduct, design, governance and future of one of India’s most important public examinations.
The strength of the consultation lay in the diversity of perspectives represented. Participants included stakeholders from medical education and health policy, HEIs, education policy, mental health, examination and large-scale technology systems, think tanks, and the student community. The presence of students who had taken up NEET-UG added an especially important dimension to the discussions.
The deliberations covered a wide range of issues including examination security, assessment methodology, institutional accountability, prevention of malpractices, computer-based testing, examination infrastructure, inclusion and linguistic equity, grievance redressal, student well-being and broader systemic reforms. The recommendations emerging from the consultation have subsequently been consolidated into a formal submission to the High-Powered Task Force on Exam Reforms.
