Happy World Foundation - Creating a Happier World by providing a Foundation to protect Mother Earth and her children
Incorporated as a Not-For-Profit Charitable Trust on 26th August 2013, Happy World Foundation believes in “influencing people to contribute to the World by creating Leaders to execute our Projects leading to a Happy World”.
We found village kids are a big asset to our country, because they grow with nature, along with their families and hence they are natural thinkers, highly creative, very adaptive, well cultured, healthy and risk takers. But we felt they lacked in self confidence as compared to urbanites, since they feel their English is poor or their outlook is less modern since they study in Government Schools. We also found that they are under-nourished and lack intake of nutritious food. Importantly there is a huge opportunity to grow Tree saplings through these kids, since they are more enthusiastic, energetic and connected to nature.
Steps involved in School Sapling Project (SSP)
We identify a village Government School and target young children aged between 8-14.
An educational session is provided to the children, about healthy food, protecting natural resources, benefits of planting trees
This is followed by a session on empowering them about achievement of their goals in life, building their confidence level and providing tips on good nourishment at low cost
Post the session, they are taught - how to plant Saplings, within their School premises
At the end of the session each child is given 2 Fruit tree saplings which they have to plant near their homes
Impact we wish to create
Till now we have conducted 153 such events, donated 16,000 sapling, planted 3,500 sapling in schools and empowered around 8,000 students. With the support of all, we wish to plant atleast 1 lac tree saplings across India, through the #LakshyaVruksha initiative, kickstarted on 6th June 2020.
About our Adopt a Tree Project
We find that our urban areas lack a strong green cover and this aspect is often neglected. Thanks to this, cities are getting warmer, polluted, dusty and becoming uglier. The increasing glare of the Sun due to use of glass in office buildings coupled with depletion of ground water are adding to the woes.
The “Adopt a Tree” Project focuses on planting trees in urban areas not just to add to the green cover but also make the city much more beautiful. The uniqueness of this Project lies in identifying the right set of people or community members, who take a pledge to water and take care of the tree saplings. To encourage ownership, we also expect them to make a small contribution, that hopefully ensures high rate of survival of the planted tree saplings.
Impact we wish to create
As of today we have conducted 45 such events and planted around 2,000 trees in Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural and Mysuru districts. With the support of all, we wish to plant atleast 1 lac tree saplings across India, through the #LakshyaVruksha initiative, kickstarted on 6th June 2020.
About our Save Food Project
Today when we find lot of food being wasted, correspondingly a huge amount of natural resources are wasted viz. (a) water used to grow, clean and cook (one kg of rice consumes about 2,500 litres of water), (b) fossil fuel (used for equipment to farm, process, transport, store and cook) and (c) cultivation of farmland created by destroying precious forest land and collectively time, effort and economy are all impacted.
Through this Project, we collect leftover food which is in good condition from Restaurants, Clubs, Party events, Office complex, high end Schools etc. and provide the same to construction labourers (typically migrants) and their family members. We chose labourers from the construction industry since they toil very hard almost the entire day and have to cook their meals in the night. Since they possess a good appetite they eat more and digest better and at the same time it will help them economically too.
Impact we wish to create
Till now we have saved around 4,000 meals. saving 12,50,000 litres of water, 3 tons of CO2 and in monetary terms - about Rs. 2 lacs. We wish to serve 100,000 meals by end of 2021.
Projects to be launched in 2020:
