Mumbai, August 14: A comprehensive skill-training initiative is being implemented by Unnati to enhance the employability of young people studying at government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) in Maharashtra. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and with the guidance of Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar, the initiative is being effectively implemented by Minister for Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship and Innovation Mangal Prabhat Lodha.
Under this initiative, 1,399 young people from various government ITIs and government polytechnics across the state have received more than 165 hours of employability-skills training. The training also includes the organisation's Learning Management System.
The Government ITI in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar recorded the highest participation, with 326 youth benefiting from the training. This was followed by 204 in Solapur, 93 at RTM Government ITI, Mozari, 81 at Jaripatka, 72 each at Buldhana and SCP ITI, Kile Ark, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, 71 at Dhamangaon-Amravati, and 68 at Akkalkot.
In addition, 67 youth in Ballarpur, 63 in Kolhapur, 56 in Selu, 39 in Mouda, 30 each in Partur and Karad, 29 in Gondia, 28 at Government ITI (Women), Akola, 26 at Government Polytechnic, Samanagaon, Nashik, 23 in Pimpri-Chinchwad, and 21 in Akola have undergone the training. Thus, a total of 1,399 youth have been trained.
Free Training Facility
The training is being provided completely free of cost to youth at government institutions through funding made available by companies. The organisation stated that support from companies such as Infosys and Xmobile has made it possible to implement the initiative on a larger scale.
Unnati stated that it is the first non-governmental organisation (NGO) in India to be registered and listed on the Social Stock Exchange. The organisation said that transparency is an important part of its working model and that it places particular emphasis on empowering young people and helping them access employment opportunities.
Focus on Employability Skills
The initiative primarily focuses on employability skills. Since technical skills are already taught by the respective ITIs and institutions, Unnati focuses on developing skills such as communication, essential workplace skills, personality development, and job readiness.
Unnati has expressed the expectation that feedback should be obtained from the institutions involved in the training programmes conducted at various ITIs across Maharashtra, so that the effectiveness of the initiative can be evaluated.
Target of Reaching 20,000 Youth
Unnati aims to expand the initiative across more ITIs in Maharashtra and provide employability-skills training to more than 20,000 young people.
The organisation has expressed its intention to take the initiative forward with the cooperation of the Maharashtra Government, with the goal of making the state's youth better equipped for employment. It has also sought cooperation to expand the programme to more ITIs across Maharashtra.
