Bangalore Chamber of Industry and Commerce participated in the Interaction Session on β€œAccess to Finance for MSMEs” organized by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, held yesterday in Bengaluru.

The session was co-chaired by Dr. Rajneesh, Additional Secretary & Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, and Dr. S. Selvakumar, Principal Secretary, Department of Commerce & Industries, Government of Karnataka. The meeting witnessed active participation from key industry bodies, financial institutions, development organizations, and representatives from leading banks across Karnataka.

BCIC was represented by Sunil Telkar, Management Committee Member & Co-Chairman – MSME Expert Committee, along with Lt. Col. Ravindra Singh, Secretary General.

The interaction focused extensively on the challenges faced by MSMEs in accessing timely, affordable, and growth-oriented finance. Discussions covered critical areas such as working capital access, collateral-related challenges, export financing support, delayed payments, simplified lending procedures, faster credit appraisal mechanisms, and improving awareness and reach of government-backed financial schemes.

During the deliberations, BCIC highlighted the need for stronger adoption and effective utilization of the TReDS platform to improve liquidity and address delayed payment cycles faced by MSMEs. BCIC also suggested the creation of an AI-enabled centralized information portal that can guide MSMEs on relevant schemes, subsidies, incentives, and financing opportunities available through various government departments and institutions.

Another important recommendation put forth by BCIC was the need to improve access to funding support for MSME-led R&D, innovation, product development, and technology upgradation initiatives, especially for manufacturing and technology-driven enterprises seeking to enhance global competitiveness.

The co-chairs reiterated the Government’s strong commitment towards building a more inclusive and supportive financial ecosystem for MSMEs and encouraged deeper collaboration between industry bodies, banks, financial institutions, and policymakers to bridge existing gaps and accelerate sustainable growth of the MSME sector.

✨ Insights from the BCIC Leadership Forum – 2025–26 Series

πŸ—“οΈ 30 April 2026
πŸ“ Bangalore International Centre

The session featured distinguished speakers Dr. Madhavi Latha, Professor, Civil Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, and Ms. Anupama Sekhar, Director, Bangalore International Centre. The event commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Prashant Gokhale, President, BCIC.

πŸ—οΈ Dr. Madhavi Latha shared valuable insights from her 17-year involvement in the planning, design, and construction of the Chenab Railway Bridgeβ€”the world’s highest railway bridge, standing 359 meters above the riverbed. She highlighted the complex geotechnical and environmental challenges, including difficult terrain, high wind speeds, seismic conditions, and evolving rock mass characteristics. A key takeaway was the adaptive design approach, where structural flexibility was critical to addressing dynamic site conditions.

🎭 Ms. Anupama Sekhar emphasized the importance of investing in arts, culture, and heritage. She articulated that while infrastructure enables functionality, culture fosters cohesionβ€”building shared spaces, encouraging dialogue, and strengthening societal trust. Culture, she noted, is not a luxury but a foundational public good.

πŸŽ™οΈ The session was moderated and summarized by Ms. Kalpana Chauhan, Co-Convenor, BCIC Leadership Forum, with speaker introductions by Ms. Ishani Chakraborty, Co-Convenor. The vote of thanks was delivered by Lt. Col. Ravindra Singh, Secretary General, BCIC.

πŸ™ Special thanks to Mr. Shama Prasad and the BCIC team for facilitating an insightful session.
