Government Schools in India are facing challenges teaching English to primary school students, largely due to lack of enough faculty able to speak it properly. On the other hand, nowadays there are many volunteers who are willing to devote time, but lack either teaching skills, or a structured program that can make an impact. Step Up For India provides a modular, structured curriculum and accompan

Learning to pronounce words with two or three English consonants together can be challenging for many children studying in vernacular medium schools.

We have a unit that focuses on overcoming that challenge!

Carefully constructed exercises to teach and practice consonant blends come together with the anchor poem of the unit “Ten Little Ducklings”.

Watch the children effortlessly say words like little, ducklings, splash, jump, pond, etc as they recite the anchor poem.

Added bonus - with the play and learn approach applied to specially designed writing exercises, they are able to easily spell such words too!

Creativity came alive in the classrooms of Trimbakeshwar Block as WNS volunteers, along with Ms.Shailja from the SUFI Program, conducted an engaging Art & Craft activity.

Students from ZPS Anjaneri, ZPS Beze, and ZPS Talwade Tri participated with great enthusiasm, showcasing their imagination and creativity through hands-on learning.

The activity was led by WNS volunteers Ganesh Deshmukh and Rahul Ghadage, whose encouragement and support made the session enjoyable and memorable for every child.

A heartfelt thank you to WNS Cares Foundation, a part of Capgemini, and its volunteers for inspiring young minds and making this learning experience truly meaningful.

When learning feels like play, even complex reading rules become easier to understand.

Through SatH-DO, Step Up For India brings activity-based learning into classrooms, giving children opportunities to learn, practise, and apply English concepts in an engaging way.

Here, role play helps students explore different sounds of the letter Y and understand how the “Naughty e” can change vowel sounds.

More than simply memorising rules, children are encouraged to participate, experiment, and learn together - building stronger reading skills while growing more confident in using English.

Learning English starts with learning alphabet sounds.

Many English sounds don't have direct equivalents in vernacular languages. Think of the "a" in apple or the "o" in orange. When children can't relate these sounds to what they already know, English can feel unfamiliar and intimidating.

At Step Up for India, we've addressed this challenge by developing combinations of familiar vernacular letters that closely match these English sounds.

Along with training teachers to use this approach effectively, we help children connect the unfamiliar with the familiar.

Sometimes, the most effective way to teach a new language is to begin with the one a child already knows.

📚 Learning Is Most Powerful When It Feels Like Play!

Children In Surajpur, Chhattisgarh, enthusiastically participated in an opposite words game with their teacher using the Sath-DO book and methodologies in 2025-26.

Through this fun and interactive activity, they strengthened their vocabulary, improved language skills, and developed a better understanding of opposite words while actively engaging in the classroom.
