Step Up For India

Step Up For India A Non Profit Organisation that designs and implements programs to support children in government schools - where we use our strengths to strengthen others.

Government Schools in India are facing challenges teaching English to primary school students, largely due to lack of enough faculty able to speak it properly. On the other hand, nowadays there are many volunteers who are willing to devote time, but lack either teaching skills, or a structured program that can make an impact. Step Up For India provides a modular, structured curriculum and accompan

ying teaching aids, that can be administered by a group of volunteers with as little as an hour per week's time commitment. This converts random efforts to a deeply impactful academic program, raising literacy levels amongst children

With just a ball and a few boxes, students actively demonstrate prepositions such as "in," "on," "above," and "between," making grammar easy to understand through context and action.

The biggest advantage is that this activity can continue at home with parents, siblings, and friends, giving children more chances to speak and practice English in everyday life.

Meaningful learning happens when practice becomes part of daily living.
We invite educators, organizations, and partners to help bring simple, joyful, everyday learning to more children across India.

Learning English starts with speaking.

The “Yes, I can; no, I can’t” game encourages children to communicate through simple conversations, helping them practice expressing what they can and cannot do in English.

At GLPS Seethanayakanahalli, Kolar, Karnataka, children are building confidence, improving Listening and Speaking skills, and discovering the joy of learning together.

Every answer spoken aloud is a step toward stronger communication skills.

We welcome partnerships and collaborations to help more children access quality English learning opportunities.

At a govt. school in Malur, students performed a "Visit To Doctor" role play, creating a meaningful opportunity to use English in a real-life context.

Through activities like these, children move beyond memorization and begin expressing their thoughts, ideas, and emotions with confidence.

Every dialogue, question, and response helps them become more comfortable communicating in English with friends, family members, neighbours, and others beyond the classroom.

When learning feels real, confidence follows.

A child learns best when learning follows a clear, consistent path.

At Step Up For India, reading is taught systematically — introducing a new sound or rule through stories and animations, practicing guided reading, reinforcing through games, and strengthening learning with larger word groups.

This step-by-step approach helps children build confidence, consistency, and stronger learning abilities over time.

Because every child deserves a learning journey that is joyful, structured, and effective.

The “I-Like And I-Don’t-Like” game is more than just an activity.

It is designed to help children learn through both passive learning and active learning — where listening, observing, expressing, and participating all work together.

Receiving information is important. But when children are encouraged to think, speak, and engage themselves, learning becomes stronger, deeper, and more meaningful.

At Step Up For India, every activity is thoughtfully designed to create learner-centered experiences that help children fully absorb and integrate new concepts with confidence.

Students learn how to handle words with two vowels next to each other.

Each new concept is built over already consolidated concepts thereby making the new concept familiar and approachable enough to learn with confidence, and strengthening the old ones.

Continuous practice helps children become more familiar and confident with words over time.

Small reading habits can create lasting confidence in children.
