This World Health Day, we think of Tanuja — a Community Health Officer who walks miles down mountain paths, carrying medicines, care, and quiet reassurance to those who wait for her.

Over time, her identity has grown beyond that of a health worker — she is someone people call out to, rely on, and trust.

Her story reminds us that while care begins with people, it needs systems that to make it run and deliver efficiently.

(How far is the nearest hospital?)

In the hills of Kumaon, this question carries weight. It shapes when people seek care — or whether they can at all.

Since 2014, Aarohi’s Mobile Medical Unit has been travelling across Nainital, Almora, and Champawat — reaching over 70,000 people across 130 villages, and conducting more than 1,100 camps so far.

Inside a single moving clinic: a doctor, diagnostics, medicines — even ultrasound services. Nearly 2,000 screenings each year, bringing essential maternal care closer to home.

For many, this means fewer long journeys, timely treatment, and one less barrier between need and care.

This World Health Day, a reminder — access is not just about facilities, but about distance, time, and the ability to reach those who need care the most.
