3rd day in a row with the Comet-Tsuchinshan-Atlas was a treat. As it heads back on its return journey, from our BAS_California Chapter set up the Star Tracker and took couple of dozens of 30 sec exposures. The result is evident with anti-tail being prominent.
What is anti-tail?
An anti tail, also known as a “dust tail,” is a curious feature observed on some comets. Unlike the main dust and ion tails that typically point away from the Sun due to the solar wind and radiation pressure, the anti tail appears to point towards the Sun.
As Earth goes through the Comet’s orbital plane, the anti tail is side-on view of these particles. This will be visible only for short period of time till our perspective view change
