Coming together of organisations and individual activists to PROTEST AGAINST UNJUST AND INHUMAN HIKE IN BMTC (http://www.bmtcinfo.com/) BUS FARE. Our main demands are:
1) The fare increase must immediately be rolled back. BMTC bus fares must be fixed in such a way that they do not exceed more than 5% of the lowest minimum wage fixed by the Government of Karnataka.
2) The number of buses and rou
tes must be increased to ensure the whole city is well covered. Mini-buses must be introduced to cover interior areas and slums.
3) All bus-stops and bus terminals must have shelters, free toilets and drinking water.
4) Steps must be taken to ensure women and sexual minorities are not sexually harassed and people with disabilities and children are also not harassed in BMTC buses.
5) A process of public consultation must be announced by July 15, 2013 to make BMTC more people-friendly, equitable, democratic and transparent.
