Sir John Carew Eccles (27 January 1903 – 2 May 1997) was a pioneering Australian neurophysiologist and philosopher who won the 1963 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his groundbreaking discoveries concerning the chemical mechanisms of synaptic transmission. He shared the prestigious award with British scientists Alan Hodgkin and Andrew Huxley.
