🚨 MCC VIOLATION ALERT | West Bengal
West Bengal's 2026 assembly election has become ground zero for communal hate speech — ECI seems to have given a free run to the BJP. The Model Code of Conduct has been in force since 15 March. Here is what has happened since.
BJP West Bengal:
The official handle posted: "This election will decide whether we speak Bangla or Urdu!!" — quote-tweeting its own earlier post calling for stopping "West Bengal from becoming West Bangladesh." The tweet garnered 271K+ views and is a textbook communal appeal — equating Urdu with Muslim identity and denigrating a constitutionally recognized Eighth Schedule language. The overwhelming majority of Bengali Muslims speak Bangla, not Urdu. The tweet is not just communal — it is factually false.
This is part of a documented pattern. Since November 2025, has posted animated videos depicting "future Bengal" with Urdu signs and skullcaps, called Metiaburuz "mini Pakistan," conflated West Bengal Muslims with Jamaat-e-Islami, weaponised the SIR voter roll revision with the "infiltrators" narrative, and used the Ram Navami occasion for "vote bank" attacks.
TMC also filed complaints against the same handle for circulating a manipulated and misleading video after MCC enforcement, alleging it was designed to incite communal sentiments.
BJP leader Dilip Ghosh made multiple public statements containing explicit threats of violence against TMC workers, named a TMC leader's residence as a "target for attack," and compared West Bengal to Bangladesh after a Ram idol was vandalised in Nandigram. Multiple TMC complaints have been filed with the CEC.
On 23 March, Ghosh stated: "Bengal's condition has become like Bangladesh. Breaking temples and stealing from temples has become normal here. All this is happening under Mamata Banerjee's protection."
ECI’s Response:
Despite 6+ formal complaints from BJP, TMC, LAPRI, and VHP — the Election Commission has not issued a single show-cause notice, campaign ban, or FIR against any party or leader for communal hate speech in West Bengal.
The only action: ECI sought a report from the CEO on Mamata's Naxalbari speech. That's it.
By contrast, the ECI reported 3,58,986 defacement removals in WB by 22 March and claims 95.8% of C-Vigil complaints across all states were resolved within 100 minutes. But defacement removal is not the same as accountability for communal poison.
West Bengal's voters deserve an election fought on governance, jobs, and development — not on manufactured civilisational anxieties. The ECI's silence on hate speech is not neutrality. It is abdication.
