132 voices. 60% ready to champion change.

When the Kushal Business Challenge reached Uttar Pradesh, we had one question: What do the people closest to the ground think?
So we listened.
From 132 State Resource Group members, we heard excitement, possibilities, and a strong belief in what entrepreneurial education can unlock. In fact, 60% said they’re ready to champion the programme.

For us, these numbers are both a signal that we’re moving in the right direction and a reminder of the work still ahead in making Bharat more entrepreneurial.

What does entrepreneurship look like when it is shaped by uncertainty, informal work, and limited access to opportunity?

Over the past two years, our work with nano-entrepreneurs from Bengaluru’s waste-picking communities as a part of the Saamuhika Shakti initiative, has challenged many conventional ideas about livelihoods and business growth.

Priya Chandrasekar reflects on what we’ve learned from working closely with women entrepreneurs navigating complex realities every day, balancing multiple responsibilities, adapting constantly, and building businesses with remarkable resilience. And explores the importance of grounded, context-aware support, and why enabling growth often means addressing practical constraints, not just providing knowledge.

What actually helps a small business grow?

In our work with nano-entrepreneurs, we’ve seen that the challenge is now always just not knowing what to do. Often times, it is having the means to act on the problem ... whether that’s increasing capacity, improving efficiency, or serving more customers.

This is where our approach has evolved.

Through asset-based solutioning, we focus on tangible support, like tools and small upgrades that the nano-entrepreneurs can use every day.

When support becomes part of the business, it goes beyond just enabling action - it sustains it.

What started as a belief has grown into a movement carried by young people across classrooms, streets, and communities.

This year alone has been a reminder of what’s possible.
Entrepreneurship entering systems.
Young people building, earning, leading.
Ideas turning into action at scale.

Nine years in, and the energy still feels like day one.

Today, we celebrate the journeys, the shifts, and the quiet moments of courage that got us here.

And then, we get back to work.
