St John’s Medical College Alumni Association congratulates Dr. Christopher Lasrado on being selected as the recipient of the Sr. Dr Mary Glowrey Award 2026 in recognition of his exceptional and ongoing service as a rural surgeon at Ashakiran Hospital, Lamtaput, Koraput district, Odisha.

The Sr. Dr. Mary Glowrey Award, the highest honor conferred by the Alumni Association, recognizes outstanding contributions to improving healthcare among underserved communities. Currently serving in a resource-constrained tribal region, Dr. Lasrado continues to provide comprehensive surgical, emergency, and general medical care—often as the sole specialist—demonstrating extraordinary commitment to communities with limited access to healthcare.

Over a distinguished career spanning decades across mission hospitals in India, including long tenures in Chhatarpur and Oddanchatram, he has combined clinical excellence with mentorship, hosting and guiding numerous undergraduate students and young doctors from St John’s and CMC. This award recognizes not only his lifelong dedication to serving where the need is greatest but also his enduring impact as a role model who exemplifies the mission and values of compassionate, service-oriented medicine.

A French AI startup approached St. John’s to explore collaboration in AI for healthcare. Following discussions with the leadership, a Proof of Concept (PoC) was identified, focusing on addressing scheduling challenges within the nursing cadre. An MoU was signed between St. John’s and the startup for a no-cost PoC.

The AI-based scheduling module was developed within 5 days, and testing will begin in the coming weeks.

Dr. Tony Raj had the opportunity to meet France’s AI Minister, Clara Chappaz, at the Embassy of France in Delhi and introduced St. John’s to her.

On the sidelines, there was also a closed-door meeting with Karnataka Ministers Mr. Priyank Kharge (IT/BT) and Mr. Sharan Prakash Patil, along with representatives from H Company. The Government of Karnataka has expressed keen interest in integrating AI into its systems to improve efficiency. Minister Priyank Kharge also shared a tweet about the meeting.

The MoU exchange took place at the French Pavilion, where Dr. Dhina and Dr. Bharat represented St. John’s.
