Even in 2050 we will continue to throw waste openly in the environment and openly dump it.
That is what the UNEP's Global Waste Management Outlook 2024 reports painting a grim picture of our planet's future.
Driven by unsustainable consumption and production patterns, waste generation is on the rise.
Particularly concerning is the projected increase in uncontrolled waste disposal, including open dumping and burning.
This contributes significantly to crisis: climate change, biodiversity loss, and pollution.
The report serves as a stark reminder that our current waste management strategies are inadequate.
We are essentially trading short-term economic growth for long-term environmental degradation.
It's time to question the very premise of our linear economy, where resources are extracted, consumed, and discarded.
Can we prioritize waste reduction, reuse, and recycling ?
Investments beyond AI / ML should be made espcially in waste management infrastructure and innovative technologies.
Additionally, there's a pressing need for consumer awareness and behavior change.
The future of our planet depends on it.
