Diversified cropping systems in rabi season
The traditional monoculture farming pattern is distributed prominently in South – western region of Madhya Pradesh including Khargone, Dewas and Melghat reserve area of Maharashtra. Maize, redgram and soybean are predominantly grown as monocrop during Kharif season. Heavy downpour for 3-4 days in these belts resulted in the high incidence of pest and diseases causing severe crop loss. To overcome the complete loss of crops due to vagaries of climate a seed of diversified cropping system was sown with the farmers of SPS through series of trainings by N+3F in all the working locations of SPS during kharif season. To keep the momentum ticking, similar efforts were made to bring more farmers under diversification in wheat and chickpea crops sown during the rabi season. N+3F organized one day training cm workshop with resource farmers of SPS in six locations viz; Bagli, Kanthapod, Udainagar, Barwaha, Bhikangaon and Melghat. Concept of diversification in cropping system was presented before the farmers and they were made to recall the traditional combination of crops sown along with wheat and chickpea during their childhood days. Configuration was jotted down on drawing sheet and made to present before the other groups. Day was concluded with the oath of decorating the farm with multiple crops.
