ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಸ್ಥಳನಾಮಗಳ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಗಳು: ಭಾಗ 22 - ಗೊಂಗಡಿಪುರ

ಗೊಂಗಡಿಪುರ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವ ಪಡೆದ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು. ಈ ಸ್ಥಳದ ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖ ಸಾ.ಶ.1495ರ ಶಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿದ್ದು, ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಗೊಂಗಡಿಪುರವನ್ನು 'ಗೊಂಗಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ' ಎಂದು ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಶಾಸನವು, ಅನಂತಯದೇವ ಮಹಾ ಅರಸುಗಳು ಕೆಲ್ಲಿಮಂಗಲದ ತಿಮ್ಮರಸರ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾದ ತಿಪ್ಪರಸರು, ಲಕ್ಕರಸರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ತಿಪ್ಪರಸರ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾದ ಹಿರಿಯ ತಿಮ್ಮಣ್ಣ ಮತ್ತು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ತಿಮ್ಮಣ್ಣಗಳಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ದೇವರಪ್ಪರ ಮಗನಾದ ತಿಮ್ಮಣ್ಣ ಇವರಿಗೆ, ಕುಕ್ಕಲನಾಡಿಗೆ ಸಲುವ ಗೊಂಗಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಹಾಗೂ ಇದರ ಚತುಸ್ಸೀಮೆಯನ್ನು ಸೂರ್ಯಗ್ರಹಣದ ಪುಣ್ಯ ಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾನ ನೀಡಿರುವ ವಿಷಯವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ.

ದಾನವನ್ನು ನೀಡುವ ಸಂದರ್ಭದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೊಂಗಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ ಗ್ರಾಮವನ್ನು ಅಗ್ರಹಾರವನ್ನಾಗಿ ಮಾಡಿ, ತಿಮ್ಮಣ್ಣರಾಜಪುರ ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರತಿನಾಮವನ್ನು ನೀಡಿದ್ದು, ದಾನವನ್ನು ರಾಮನಾಥಪುರದ (ಹಾಸನ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆ) ಕಾವೇರಿ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲದೇ ದಾನ ನೀಡಿದ ಪುಣ್ಯವು ಇಮ್ಮಡಿ ನರಸಿಂಗರಾಯರಿಗೆ (ವಿಜಯನಗರ ಸಾಮ್ರಾಜ್ಯದ ಅರಸ) ಲಭಿಸಬೇಕು ಎಂಬ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯು ಈ ಶಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.

ಈ ಶಾಸನವು ಪ್ರಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಎರಡು ದಿನಾಂಕಗಳನ್ನು ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ, 25-ಫೆಬ್ರವರಿ-1495ರ, ಮಂಗಳವಾರ ದಾನ ನೀಡಿದ ದಿನವಾದರೆ (ಸೂರ್ಯಗ್ರಹಣ ನಡೆದ ದಿನ), 17-ಡಿಸೆಂಬರ್-1495ರ, ಗುರುವಾರ ಶಾಸನ ಕಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಅಧಿಕೃತವಾಗಿ ನೆಟ್ಟ ದಿನವಾಗಿದೆ.

ಗೊಂಗಡಿಪುರವು ಈ ಶಾಸನವನ್ನು ಹಾಕಿಸಿದಾಗ 'ಕುಕ್ಕಲನಾಡು' ಎಂಬ ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಆಡಳಿತ ವಿಭಾಗಕ್ಕೆ ಸೇರಿದ್ದು, ಈ ನಾಡು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನ ವಾಯುವ್ಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಕಾವತಿ ನದಿಯ ಎರಡೂ ದಂಡೆಗಳ ಉದ್ದಕ್ಕೂ ಹರಡಿತ್ತು. ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಉತ್ತರ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಪಶ್ಚಿಮ ಭಾಗ, ಮಾಗಡಿ ಹಾಗೂ ನೆಲಮಂಗಲ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಪೂರ್ವ ಭಾಗ, ರಾಮನಗರ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ದಕ್ಷಿಣ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಉತ್ತರ ದಿಕ್ಕಿನ ಕೆಲವು ಭೂ ಭಾಗಗಳು ಅಂದರೆ, ಹೆಸರಘಟ್ಟ, ಐಗಂಡಪುರ, ಬಿನ್ನಮಂಗಲ, ಮಾಕಳಿ, ಚಿಕ್ಕಬಾಣವಾರ, ಯಶವಂತಪುರ, ದಾಸರಹಳ್ಳಿ, ಪೀಣ್ಯ, ಕ್ಯಾತಮಾರನಹಳ್ಳಿ, ನಾಗರಬಾವಿ, ತಾವರೆಕೆರೆ, ಕೆಂಗೇರಿ, ಬಿಡದಿ, ಕುಂಬಳಗೋಡು, ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾನಿಲಯ (ಜ್ಞಾನ ಭಾರತಿ) ಇನ್ನೂ ಮುಂತಾದ ಪ್ರದೇಶಗಳು ಈ ಕುಕ್ಕಲನಾಡಿನ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಗೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿದ್ದವು.

ಈ ಶಾಸನದಲ್ಲಿ ದಾನವನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದವರಿಗೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡಿದವರಿಗೆ ಸಿಗುವ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲಗಳನ್ನು ಸಹ ತಿಳಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ತಾವು ದಾನ ನೀಡಿದಾಗ ಲಭಿಸುವ ಪುಣ್ಯಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಎರಡುಪಟ್ಟು ಪುಣ್ಯವು, ಈ ದಾನವನ್ನು ರಕ್ಷಿಸಿದವರಿಗೆ ಲಭಿಸುತ್ತದೆ ಎಂಬ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಿದ್ದರೆ, ಈ ದಾನವನ್ನು ಅಪಹರಿಸಿದವರು / ಹಾಳು ಮಾಡಿದವರು ಗಂಗಾ ನದಿ ತೀರದಲ್ಲಿ ಗೋವನ್ನು ಕೊಂದ ಪಾಪಕ್ಕೆ ಹೋಗುವರು ಎಂಬ ಶಾಪಾಶಯವನ್ನು ಕನ್ನಡದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀಡಲಾಗಿದೆ.

ಈ ಪೋಸ್ಟ್‌ನೊಂದಿಗೆ ಗೊಂಗಡಿಪುರ ಶಾಸನದ 3ಡಿ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್‌ ಚಿತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದು, ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ 'ಗೊಂಗಡಿಹಳ್ಳಿ' ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಕೆತ್ತಿರುವುದನ್ನು ನೀವು ಸ್ಪಷ್ಟವಾಗಿ ಗುರುತಿಸಬಹುದು. ಈ ಶಾಸನ ಕಲ್ಲು 'ಗೊಂಗಡಿಪುರದ' ಇತಿಹಾಸಕ್ಕೆ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆಧಾರವಾಗಿರುವುದರಿಂದ, ಮುಂದಿನ ಪೀಳಿಗೆಯನ್ನು ಗಮನದಲ್ಲಿರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡು ಇದನ್ನು 3ಡಿ ಸ್ಕ್ಯಾನಿಂಗ್‌ ಮೂಲಕ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್‌ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.

Earliest Records of Locality Names in Bengaluru: Part 22 – Gongadipura 🕰📜

Gongadipura is today one of Bengaluru's historic areas. The earliest known written reference to the locality comes from a 1495 CE stone inscription, where it is recorded as Gongadihalli. The record specifies two key dates: the ritual grant was made on a Tuesday, 25 February 1495 (during a solar eclipse), and the inscription stone was installed on Thursday, 17 December 1495. Through this grant, Gongadihalli was established as an agrahara and given the alternative name Timmannarajapura.

The grant was issued by Anantayadeva , son of Huliyaramayya. He granted the entire village along with its four boundaries to Tipparasa, Lakkarasa, Hiriya Timmanna, Chikka Timmanna , and Timmanna . The ritual grant was performed on the sacred banks of the Cauvery River at Ramanathapura (in present-day Arkalgud taluk, Hassan district).

At the time, Gongadihalli belonged to Kukkalanadu, an ancient administrative unit extending along both sides of the Arkavathi River—covering areas like modern Hesaraghatta, Peenya, Kengeri, Dasarahalli, Nagarabhavi, Nelamangala, and Magadi. The merit of this deed was dedicated to the Karnata (Vijayanagara) Emperor Saluva Immadi Narasingaraya.

This inscription describes both the rewards for those who protect the charitable grant and the punishments for those who harm it. The Sanskrit portion states that anyone who protects and maintains the grant will receive twice the merit earned by the original donor. The Kannada portion warns that anyone who steals, damages, or interferes with the grant will commit a sin equal to killing a Kapila (a sacred brown cow) on the banks of the Ganges — considered one of the most serious sins in traditional belief.

The images show 3D digital scans of the 1445CE record, where the name Gongadihalli is carved in stone, keeping the area's heritage alive.

ಎಲ್ಲರ ಕಣ್ಣೆದುರೇ ಅಡಗಿದ್ದ ಪರಂಪರೆಗೆ ಜೀವ ತುಂಬಿದ ಚಾಣಕ್ಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು

ಜುಲೈ 20 ರಿಂದ 25, 2026 ರವರೆಗಿನ ಆರು ದಿನಗಳ ಅವಧಿಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಪದವಿ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳ ತಂಡಗಳು ದೇವನಹಳ್ಳಿ ತಾಲೂಕಿನ ಎರಡು ಪಂಚಾಯತಿಗಳ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ 20 ವೀರಗಲ್ಲುಗಳು, 14 ಶಾಸನಗಳು ಹಾಗೂ 12 ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವುಗಳಿಗೆ ಸಂಬಂಧಿಸಿದ ಅವಶೇಷಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸಿದವು. ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ ಹೆಚ್ಚಿನವರು ಇತಿಹಾಸದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳಾಗಿರಲಿಲ್ಲ ಎಂಬುದು ವಿಶೇಷ.

ಮಿಥಿಕ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿಯ 'ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಶಾಸನಗಳ 3ಡಿ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಸಂರಕ್ಷಣಾ ಯೋಜನೆ'ಯ ತಂಡವು ಚಾಣಕ್ಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ "ಹಿಡನ್ ಇನ್ ಪ್ಲೇನ್ ಸೈಟ್" (Hidden in Plain Sight) ಎಂಬ ಸ್ಟುಡಿಯೋ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ನಡೆಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿತು. ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಯಾವುದೇ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯವರಾಗಿದ್ದರೂ ತಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಪರಂಪರೆಯನ್ನು ಅರಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡುವ ಉದ್ದೇಶದಿಂದ ಈ ಕೋರ್ಸ್ ಅನ್ನು ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು.

ತರಗತಿಯ ಉಪನ್ಯಾಸಗಳ ಬದಲಾಗಿ, ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮವನ್ನು ಸ್ಟುಡಿಯೋ ಚಟುವಟಿಕೆಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಕಾರ್ಯದ (ಫೀಲ್ಡ್ ವಿಸಿಟ್) ಆಧಾರದ ಮೇಲೆ ರೂಪಿಸಲಾಗಿತ್ತು. ಇದರಲ್ಲಿ ಮೆಕ್ಯಾನಿಕಲ್ ಮತ್ತು ಏರೋಸ್ಪೇಸ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್, ಎಲೆಕ್ಟ್ರಾನಿಕ್ಸ್ ಇಂಜಿನಿಯರಿಂಗ್ ಮತ್ತು ವಿಎಲ್‌ಎಸ್‌ಐ ಎಂಬೆಡೆಡ್ ಸಿಸ್ಟಮ್ಸ್, ಕಂಪ್ಯೂಟರ್ ಸೈನ್ಸ್, ರಾಜ್ಯಶಾಸ್ತ್ರ, ವಾಣಿಜ್ಯ ಮತ್ತು ಇತಿಹಾಸ ವಿಭಾಗಗಳ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಭಾಗವಹಿಸಿದ್ದರು. ಇವರು ಶಾಸನಗಳು, ವೀರಗಲ್ಲುಗಳು, ದೇವಾಲಯಗಳು, ಮ್ಯಾಪಿಂಗ್ (ನಕ್ಷೆ ರಚನೆ) ಮತ್ತು ವಿಶ್ಲೇಷಣೆ/ವ್ಯಾಖ್ಯಾನ ಎಂಬ ಐದು ತಂಡಗಳಾಗಿ ಕೆಲಸ ಮಾಡಿದರು.

ಕಾರ್ಯಕ್ರಮದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಅಂಶಗಳು:

ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ ಸಮೀಕ್ಷೆ – ಕೊಯಿರ ಮತ್ತು ಕಾರಹಳ್ಳಿ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಪಂಚಾಯಿತಿಗಳ ವಿವಿಧ ಗ್ರಾಮ/ಸ್ಥಳಗಳಿಗೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ, ಅಲ್ಲಿನ ಪಾರಂಪರಿಕ ಸ್ಮಾರಕಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಅವಶೇಷಗಳನ್ನು ದಾಖಲಿಸುವುದರ ಜೊತೆಗೆ ಅವುಗಳ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯನ್ನು ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಮಾಡಲಾಯಿತು.

ಬೃಹತ್ ಶಿಲಾಯುಗದ ತಾಣ – ಹೆಚ್ಚುವರಿಯಾಗಿ, ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಮನಗೊಂಡನಹಳ್ಳಿಯ ಬೃಹತ್ ಶಿಲಾಯುಗ ತಾಣಕ್ಕೆ ಭೇಟಿ ನೀಡಿ, ಪ್ರಾಚೀನ ಸಮಾಧಿ ಪದ್ಧತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಅವಲೋಕಿಸಿ ಅವುಗಳ ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಮಹತ್ವವನ್ನು ತಿಳಿದುಕೊಂಡರು.

ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ತಂತ್ರಜ್ಞಾನಗಳು – ಶಾಸನಗಳ 3D ಸ್ಕ್ಯಾನಿಂಗ್, ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರದ ಮಾಹಿತಿಯನ್ನು ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥಿತವಾಗಿ ದಾಖಲಿಸಲು EpiCollect 5, ಹಾಗೂ ಸ್ಥಳಾಧಾರಿತ ನಕ್ಷೆ ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಲು Google My Maps ಬಳಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಹಿತಿ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಿಸುವುದರಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕವಾಗಿ ಪ್ರಕಟಿಸಬಹುದಾದ ದಾಖಲೆಯ ರೂಪಕ್ಕೆ ತರುವವರೆಗೆ, ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಕಾರ್ಯವಿಧಾನವನ್ನು ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಒಂದೇ ನಿರಂತರ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಾಗಿ ಕಲಿತರು.

ಫಲಿತಾಂಶ – ದಾಖಲಿಸಲಾದ ಎಲ್ಲ ಪರಂಪರೆಯ ತಾಣಗಳನ್ನು ಒಳಗೊಂಡ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕವಾಗಿ ಲಭ್ಯವಿರುವ (Live) ನಕ್ಷೆ ಸಿದ್ಧವಾಯಿತು. ಜೊತೆಗೆ, ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಸಂಗ್ರಹಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಆರ್ಕೈವ್ ಪ್ಯಾಕೆಟ್‌ಗಳನ್ನೂ ಸಿದ್ಧಪಡಿಸಲಾಯಿತು.

ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯವು ಮಿಥಿಕ್ ಸೊಸೈಟಿ – ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಶಾಸನಗಳ ಯೋಜನೆಗೆ ನೇರವಾಗಿ ಕೊಡುಗೆ ನೀಡಿದ್ದು, ಮುಂದಿನ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಸಂಶೋಧನೆ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಾರ್ವಜನಿಕ ಜಾಗೃತಿಗಾಗಿ ಯೋಜನೆಯ ಡಿಜಿಟಲ್ ಸಂಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಮತ್ತಷ್ಟು ಸಮೃದ್ಧಗೊಳಿಸಿತು.

ವಿವಿಧ ಶೈಕ್ಷಣಿಕ ಹಿನ್ನೆಲೆಯಿಂದ ಬಂದ ವಿದ್ಯಾರ್ಥಿಗಳು ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ ತೋರಿದ ಉತ್ಸಾಹ, ಶಿಸ್ತು ಮತ್ತು ಸಮರ್ಪಣೆಯನ್ನು ನಾವು ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕವಾಗಿ ಅಭಿನಂದಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ಅನುಭವ ಕೇಂದ್ರಿತ ಕಲಿಕೆಗೆ ಅತ್ಯುತ್ತಮ ವೇದಿಕೆಯನ್ನು ಒದಗಿಸಿಕೊಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಚಾಣಕ್ಯ ವಿಶ್ವವಿದ್ಯಾಲಯಕ್ಕೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಹೃತ್ಪೂರ್ವಕ ಕೃತಜ್ಞತೆಗಳು.

Hidden in Plain Sight: Bringing Heritage to Life at Chanakya University

Over six days, from 20 to 25 July 2026, a batch of undergraduate students documented 20 hero stones, 14 inscriptions, and 12 ancient temples and associated remains in two panchayats of Devanahalli taluk. Most of them were not students of history.

The studio course "Hidden in Plain Sight" was conducted at Chanakya University by the team of the Mythic Society's Bengaluru Inscriptions 3D Digital Conservation Project. It was designed to sensitise students of all academic backgrounds to the heritage that lies around them. In place of classroom lectures, the programme was built around studio sessions and field visits. The participants came from Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Electronics Engineering and VLSI Embedded Systems, Computer Science, Political Science, Commerce, and History, and worked in five teams — Inscriptions, Hero Stones, Temples, Mapping, and Interpretation.

The work covered:

Field survey — visits to Koira and Karahalli Panchayats to record heritage objects on the spot and to understand their historical setting.
Megalithic site — additionally, the students visited the megalithic site at Managonadanahalli, where they explored ancient burials and learnt about their historical importance.
Digital tools — 3D scanning of inscriptions, EpiCollect 5 for structured recording of field data, and Google My Maps for spatial mapping. The students learnt these as one continuous chain, from the field to a published record.
Output — a live public map of everything that was documented, along with archive packets prepared for the project's collection.

This work contributes directly to the Mythic Society – Bengaluru Inscriptions Project and adds to its digital archive for future academic research and public engagement.

🏺 7-Day Workshop on Ceramic Typology

The Mythic Society, Bengaluru, organized a 7-Day Workshop on Ceramic Typology from 5th to 11th July 2026, led by the distinguished Prof. K. Krishnan, Former Professor, Department of Ancient History and Archaeology, The Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, Vadodara. The workshop provided participants with a rigorous foundation in theoretical concepts alongside advanced practical training in archaeological ceramics

🔍 A key highlight of the workshop was the hands-on study of pottery assemblages recovered during excavations conducted by The Mythic Society at Barkur, Brahmavara Taluk, Udupi District, Karnataka. Working directly with these artifacts enabled students and researchers to understand the precise application of classification methodologies in active research.

The workshop focused on essential academic topics, including:
• Ceramic classification frameworks and typological systems 📝
• Identification of diagnostic features such as rims, bases, handles, and body sherds 🔬
• Advanced recording and documentation techniques 📊

Through intensive lectures, practical laboratory sessions, and academic discussions, participants developed the critical skills required to identify, classify, and interpret archaeological pottery. 🏷️
