Meghana plans to start a clean energy manufacturing in her city. Kindly invest her enterprise to stop
Meghana knows how to install solar lights, solar home light solutions, so on an average Rs.7,200 of the
cost on electricity bills will be saved per year, she learned how to install the lights from Ashok, the trainer
who runs a solar company in Chikkaballapur, 37 km away. She’s trained for two months and has been
installing one kind of solarenterprise will be complete, so before she does that, she wants to learn how to do energy audits and
install a range of solar solutions. She wants to learn what’s out there, and also be able to provide complete
solar solutions and servicing to her community. Then she thinks she’ll have an on-going business.
Meghana currently works in a garment factory, earning Rs.10,000 per month.
Meghana’s first business idea is to pitch to houses to install 40W Solar panels on their rooftops and to
power 4 bulbs, a fan and TV in the home, her solar installation costs. Rs.1400. Rs.1,200 for the panels,
Rs.1200 for the battery and Rs.400 for the lamps, a total of RS 5,200. For each household this means that
there will be no power cuts, constant light and also reduction in use of electricity of Rs.7,200 per
household/year.
Meghana has done her market research and found 74 households are interested in per product, as she is
from the community where there are frequent electricity cute, and the students are facing a huge problem
due to this and Meghana wants to solve this issue by starting her solar installation enterprise in her
community. There 960 households are in her community, and everyone are using regular electricity and on
average they received an electricity bill of Rs.600 - Rs.800 per month. 40-50% of the people from this
community work in industries and earn Rs.15,000 to Rs.18,000 per month. And 30% are farmers who work
in their farms and earn Rs.130,000 - Rs.1,50,000 per annum.
While she knows now, only one installation (which has a warranty of 3 years, lifespan of minimum 7-8
years, and requires regular services once in 6-7 months). Meghana knows she needs to learn more skills to
run a sustainable solar enterprise, she wants to learn how to run energy audits for homes, enterprises, and
then to be able to search for the best combination of solutions in the market, both low-cost and providing
total solar solutions to homes.
She’s asked to connect her to engineers and solar companies from whom she can
learn how to run energy audits and at the same time, spend time with them in their companies to installation, she knows that once she sells that to everyone where she lives, the understand the ever-changing solar market and solutions.
