Hey guys!
We are thrilled to present our fifth speaker, Reshma Valliappan.
Reshma Valliappan, also known as Val Resh, is an artist-advocate fighting for the right to be granted, what for most others is a given -full legal capacity.
She is the co-founder of Mind Arcs/The Red Door which aims at creating spaces for more users/survivors (of psychiatry) to come out of the closet and speak about their experiences along with playing peer support to each other. She is the author of 'Fallen, Standing -My Life As A Schizophrenist', the first part of her memoir. Her paper titled 'Art Within Madness' was also published in a research journal 'Samyukta'. Her story of living with schizophrenia without medications 'A Drop of Sunshine' has been screened in India and other countries. She is also an Ashoka Fellow, an Ink Fellow and has received the WIN Pune Woman of the Year Award along with SCARF-PII Media for Mental Health Award.
During her free time she teaches a combination of martial arts (Tai Chi & VarmaKalai), practices yoga, counsels, and the list is endless! Otherwise, she spends her time - by learning the secrets of the universe by observing her cats and talking to nature while doing tandavs when it rains.
