Water Memories : Wetlands and Bogs.
Not just lakes, it's adjoining wetlands too form a part of placemaking with the connected ecosystems. 'R' who used to play in the 'little kashmir' wetland now works as a powerloom worker in a small factory built on the concretised wetland bog.

Water Memories :
Like many areas in Bangalore, Shantinagar's commons had to pave way for development. For M and many more residents, cherished memories of life trace back to common lands like the Akkithimmanahalli Lake.

The ward is an interconnected web of places, people, activities and administration. A citizen’s experiences are subjective and are graded based on their geographical, social and economic locations.

To take an objective look in a carefully measured way to see how life is in the city, , , , and are coming together for a Ground Level Ward Survey in Shanthinagar Ward.

With this exercise, fresh perspectives will come to build citizenship in the ward.

“What do you mean soil? Bangalore means concrete” the auto driver explains as he navigates the metro pillars and flyovers which fence Marappanpalya.

In a rapidly growing society, Bangalore needs concrete for development. But what does concrete constitute? Gravel and sand components that are deeply connected to soil.

What, then, does soil mean for the young citizens of this ward who will inherit the concrete jungle in this era of climate change? How can we instil in them a wonder for something that's probably always been pointed out as “dirty” and to be stayed away from.

To launch 'Soil Stories' by at BCC, we invited young citizens from Marappanpalya to experience clay through play and connect with the soil beneath the city's concrete.

Shoutout to .ceramics and who facilitated this session.

As we mentioned in our first post, Namma Ward Namma Dhwani is a project under the The Flourishing Bengaluru collective (FBC).

This collective was formed with the realisation that large, complex 'wicked' problems cannot be solved by individuals or even by institutions, not even by governments with all their resources. Instead, given the scale of the problems, the only meaningful and lasting way to make a difference is by building ecosystems whose collective strength contains the potential to address them.
