🌱 Happy World Environment Day! 🌍

Continuing a meaningful tradition initiated in 2023 by Padma Bhushan awardee Smt. Sudha Murty, the IISc Alumni Association (IIScAA) celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June 2026 with a special sapling plantation drive at the IIScAA Office.

Alumni and students came together to plant saplings, symbolizing the nurturing of future generations, the strengthening of bonds between alumni and students, and our shared responsibility to protect and preserve our environment.

Each sapling planted is a living reminder of our commitment to building a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.

As we nurture these young plants, we also seek to nurture lifelong connections within the IISc community by encouraging graduating students to join and strengthen our vibrant alumni network. Together, we can ensure that future generations of IIScians remain connected, engaged, and committed to making a positive impact on society.

Let us continue to grow together—for a greener planet and a stronger IISc community.

Post-event report: Dr. Srinivasa Rajagopalan Award & Er. Avinash Shirode Yashokirti Award Ceremony 2026

The IISc Alumni Association successfully organized the Dr. Srinivasa Rajagopalan Award & Er. Avinash Shirode Yashokirti Award Ceremony on April 18, 2026, at the Faculty Hall, IISc. The event was conducted in a hybrid format, with around 100 participants joining both in person and virtually.

The program began with a warm welcome address by Dr. S. Ramachandra, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by Lt. Col. G. Rajaram (Retd.), President, IIScAA, along with donors, awardees, and distinguished guests. Lt. Col. Rajaram also shared insights into the legacy and significance of the awards and announced the awardees.

🔹 Dr. Srinivasa Rajagopalan Award
Recognizing outstanding young Indian scientists whose research contributes to human welfare. Each awardee received a cash prize of â‚ą50,000 and a citation.
• Dr. Kesavardana Sannula
• Dr. Durga Prasada Rao Hari

🔹 Er. Avinash Shirode Yashokirti Award
Honouring individuals who have overcome socio-economic challenges to achieve excellence in engineering.
• Dr. Annamdas Venu Gopal Madhav – Cash prize of ₹25,000, citation, and memento
• Prof. P. Anbazhagan – Citation and memento
• Prof. Gurrala Gurunath – Citation and memento

The ceremony was enriched by inspiring addresses from the donors. Ms. Mythili Ramchand spoke about the enduring legacy of the Rajagopalan Award, while Er. Avinash Shirode shared reflections on the remarkable journeys of the awardees.

The event brought together distinguished guests, faculty, alumni, and students, celebrating excellence, perseverance, and impactful contributions to society. It concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. K. S. Gurumurthy, followed by high tea and networking.

We extend our heartiest congratulations to Dr. Sudesh Kumar G, an esteemed IISc alumnus, on the release of his book “History of Sri Ahobila Mutt – Trail of a Tradition.”
The book was formally released on 12th April 2026 at The Lalit Ashok by Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, Hon’ble Member of Parliament representing Mysore & Kodagu.
The event was graced by Dr. P. Ramanujan, IISc alumnus from CSA, former Director of C-DAC and a Vedic scholar, and Sri Dushyanth Sridhar, a renowned orator on Hindu spiritual topics and an IISc intern.
Lt. Col. G. Rajaram (Retd.), President of IISc Alumni Association (IIScAA), attended the event at the invitation of the author and addressed the gathering. He expressed his privilege, honour, and pride in noting that all four distinguished dignitaries present share an association with IISc.
This remarkable work beautifully captures the rich heritage and enduring traditions of the Sri Ahobila Mutt, contributing meaningfully to the preservation of cultural and spiritual history.

We are proud to congratulate our alumnus, Dr. P Guruswamy of NASA, for his significant contribution to the dynamic stability of parachutes associated with the Artemis Moon missions.

His work is critical to ensuring the safe Entry, Descent, and Landing (EDL) of spacecraft—especially during the final phase, where parachutes stabilize and guide the capsule to a precise splashdown.

The historic Artemis II splashdown marks a major milestone in human space exploration, with the Orion capsule safely returning to Earth after a successful lunar mission.

A Day of Discovery & Connection: IISc Alumni Visit to Challakere Campus

The IISc Alumni Association organized a memorable one-day visit to the Challakere Campus on 15 March 2026, bringing together ~60 enthusiastic alumni. From a warm welcome and insightful presentation by Dr. S***a Reddy to a guided tour of cutting-edge facilities and a vibrant campus, the day was filled with learning, reconnecting, and exploration.
